I just wanted to make a comment on Answerth as a few comments have been made that he is not an AFL standard player. We have played him mainly in the backline in the 1sts and trialled him on the wing at times with reasonable success in trial matches. He is currently being used in the centre square in the reserves and is performing OK. Developing his versatility is not going to hurt him. So what are his strengths and weaknesses? He is a great role player who sticks to his task when given one. As a lockdown backman he performs admirably but does not have any athletic weapons. He is not slow but not fast either, he is not that tall either, his disposal is passable mainly due to trying to dispose of the ball quickly after receiving it, and he can find the ball OK if given that latitude by his coach. Last year our backline was a little slow and lacked X Factor to bring the ball forward. We relied on our kicking for ball movement and intercepting to get the ball in the first place. This is why we have introduced MCKenna and at times Wilmott into our half backline. So although Answerth is a capable AFL player he does not have a position in our 1sts at the moment due to coaches experimenting with our best side. He is tracking well in the 2nds at the moment and developing his craft in different positions this can only be a plus for the future. For me he is in our best 26 players and will get an opportunity in the future. He is a role player in our side. Not all players need to be A Graders and if they all were we couldn’t have them in our side any way due to salary cap restrictions. He is a solid citizen, great role player and always gives his best so what more can our fans ask?
