Pardon the intrusion. Not a good sign with 17 AFL listed players against a stand alone Club being made to look silly. Questions the depth of Club.
Lyons was ordinary to say the least, not on his own there though.TBH - Lyons played like a guy that wanted the run, but didn’t want to risk too much.
This is all true, but still doesn't explain how AFL-listed players consistently fail to hit 5 metre handball targets or 15 metre short passes.Pardon the intrusion.
I was speaking with my mate who is a Williamstown player about how some stand alone sides can be so strong compared to AFL aligned sides and he says the AFL-aligned sides play the exact same way their AFL sides do, to help their listed player's development, whereas the stand alone VFL sides simply play to their strengths the way they want to. A lot of these games come down to talent vs game plan. Werribee wouldn't have many blokes who could play at AFL level, but the Lions have plenty. However the Tigers can play to their strengths as the VFL premiership is their goal. Brisbane's culmination of 23 however might not be strong enough to play out an AFL-level game plan every week. Keep in mind every AFL-aligned club's main goal is player development. Results are an afterthought.
VFL results aren't a clear guide of an AFL-aligned club's depth. Nevertheless it's irrelevant in Brisbane's case as a preliminary final is still a great result.
Ronnie James played in a grand final at 14 (when it was VFA).What's the youngest player we've ever seen in a VFL prelim? Surely a 16 year Leo Lombard for the Suns today is the youngest we've seen for a while!
So the answer is 1985 before the league went professional?Ronnie James played in a grand final at 14 (when it was VFA).
Same. Second half of the year quite impressive.Changed my opinion on Reville, I reckon if they delist a few he might get a rookie spot.
A lot of players didn’t seem like it was a spot in GF at stake. Maybe a few know their fate and will be cut from list in next few weeks.
Probably agree, seems like the VFL Coaching gig at Lions just gets passed around. Be good to target abb by proper coach who is invested at VFL Level. But you will always be dictated by senior AFL Coach I suppose.Don’t rate Huddo as a Coach.
I think the team has got progressively worse as the year has gone on.
Panicky and lacking structure and a genuine game plan.
Also a bit of a list turnover at the lower end of the list is not a bad idea.
The players would be getting feedback about their performance and position at the club all through the season.Do we think some players got bad news before this game ? Has happened before
Puts on his Elixuh hat ...
If Gunners had played we would have won that easily not only becuase of the goals he would have kicked personally but because of his organising of the forward line and the increase in cofidence from the mids just knowing he was out there.
