who are the top end academy and father son prospects? given we (richmond) have stockpilled later picks with presumably the intention of packaging them up for early picks to teams that need points

Based on the AFL academy

1. Levi Ashcroft (Brisbane FS)
2. Leo Lombard (GS Academy)
3. Tyler Welsh (Adelaide FS)
4. Sam Marshall (Brisbane Academy)
5. Ben Camporeale (Carlton FS)
6. Lucas Camporeale (Carlton FS)
7. Joel Chocran (Sydney Academy)

Still a long way out but suspect the first 5 go first round. 3 probably go top 10.

Nice to see three of the top four are Queenslanders. Hopefully another year of delivering top end QLD talent into the league in 2024 before what looks to be another very strong year for Queensland in 2025. The Sunshine state is FINALLY coming of age as a footballing state.

Mate, you really are going to get the northern academy concessions pulled from us if you keep spruiking so hard.

I know back at the start of 2022 I had Koopa Walsh as WA's Number 1 at the time but he hasn't replicated his prolific goalkicking form from when he was 16.

He didn't make the WA 18's summer squad and I have to concede that he's up against it now.

Having said that, there will be additions to the squad closer to the 2024 championships. I'm guessing WA will add 3 or 4 overagers also as they did in 2023 with Hansen Jnr, Fonti, Wills etc

Fortunately there have been some risers to replace those that have dropped off, including slick Peel medium defender and B&F winner Jessie Grant, athetic Subiaco utility big man Hayden Windsor, Claremont forward Hamish Davis, Albany based 199cm ruck Lucas Ravenhill, Tigers livewire Cody Angove and I still have high hopes for Caylon Seelander, the son of Leroy Jetta, when he gets an injury free run.

Also worth keeping an eye out for Peel's Luke Bennett. Towards the end of last season he emerged and was taking a hanger nearly every week. I just want to see what else he can do before pushing him up the WA board but he did make the WA summer squad and he can certainly jump.

Also interested in surprise selection Sage Clarke who has not played a colts game, is not listed on any WAFL club database but according to the press release belongs to East Fremantle.

Tore Nelson, the strapping 190cm Indigenous back from Subiaco is another who was included despite not having yet played a colts game but his form in PSA was promising. He wouldn't want to get any more strapping though. Could lose a kg and get some tone.

Been keeping an eye on this draft and I'm far more excited for it than this year's crop.

Felt like 2023 was the Harley show. I think 2024 will have a good spread of solid talent in the top 10-15 range.

O'Sullivan, Draper & Ashcroft looking really solid. It's a proper midfielders draft.

I did say just the top prospects.

2019 we had 5 academy kids doing preseason with the senior team. 3 went on to be drafted that year. Only Coleman to us.

This year, we had both Levi Ashcroft and Sam Marshall spend a week midseason training with the senior team, after Vic Metro played the Allies up here.

End of 2021 (preseason for 2022), Will and Jaspa Fletcher were already training with the the senior team, before our draftees arrived. I remember watching a full ground practice match with Will and Jaspa playing, while our draftees watched on, during the draftees first week up here.

One of my biggest gripes.

Clubs can’t even talk to prospective draftees until after the Champs, yet the Northern clubs can run their prospects on AFL programs for almost 2 years.

Typical whinge, whine, moan at clouds. Fletcher and Ashcroft were F/S and every club in the league has a F/S program which includes access to pre-season, mid-season in fact 12 months of the year specialised programs. Every club has access to their kids from the NGA academies to structure whatever training program they run and yes even the northern clubs can not talk to potential draftees until the school year is over or designated times such as draft camps.

Leo Lombard and Caleb Nancarrow were both seen training with the Suns AFL team on day one of the preseason today.

Any other draft prospects training with AFL clubs at the moment?
