It's not just about that though. I'd imagine the decision on whether or not to match is done very quickly. It's trading for points if you need them or need to shed them.

Someone at Collingwood really needed to do this when Sydney refused to match
They’ve got him listed as that, but he apparently played forward up until the champs, but was played back there and later in the year. Kicked 16 goals in the first 6 rounds in the Coates League.
He’s like a clone of Tauru. Both 194cm, run 3 second 20m, but also have big tanks, can play forward or back. Both only just turned/turning 18yo and they played together for Vic Country.
All 4 of the guys we’ve picked can seriously run.

The AFL site's draft tracker doesn't have anything to designate Kako as an NGA pick but they list Collingwood and the Suns as selecting academy picks because they seemingly weren't prepared for their clubs passing on them.
He’ll get that from Macrae and Pou. They’ll be a monumental upgrade on the guys we had in there with Steele in the first half of the year in particular. And in time, I’m sure they’re planning on Travaglia playing there, so hopefully that happens.
Nothing is better than your club board with so many thinking they are Wells and know who Geelong should get, only to cry like babies as Wells picks players they don't have a clue about, it gets better every year lol.
