List managers should do their job and pick the next best they can.

That's not what we're talking about though.

You can always use later picks, like Pick 40 in this draft, or trade back.

If you keep having needs not available at your picks, then maybe you have to overpay a bit.

That is why I'd have trade in our f1- then split it for two picks this year in the late 20's to 30's. We could have got the talent in this year I was all for this. However everyone on here wanted to keep the pick for next year. Let me just say this, they better be right that these continue to be highly rated, we saw how Edwards went

Sure. But my point (again) is that the club isn't focusing on needs with our 3rd pick, so why would we expect a new 3rd pick or the 4th pick (Pick 40) to be used properly anyway?

I'm glad we didn't trade in with the mentality we showed on the draft nights, though pre-draft I was all for it.

The problem is we have players who 'can' play in other positions, rather we should have players that play in 'specific' positions. I'm sick to death of seeing positional musical chairs. It's something that has almost killed Campbell's career thus far.

If i.e florent or Blakey is injured - I want to see Bice straight in. None of this Mcinerney to Half back, Cambell to a flank, Hayward upto a wing bullshit.

Bice is a big tick for me. Especially with Florents fluctuating form and Lloyds age.

I'm not at all unhappy with Bice, very happy with Dattoli but a bit puzzled with the other 4.
A medium forward but why not someone bigger and more robust like Davis who has performed at senior level? Why not Jack Whitlock? Surely he's a better long term investment than TWO small defenders? Why Riak instead of Cochran or maybe Davidson?
I'm sure there are reasons but I remain puzzled as I can't see both Paton or Leidler surviving on the list. Riak maybe.

I’ve watched barely any players in this year’s draft pool so I’m wary about commenting. But I have seen a bit of Cochran.

As I posted a week ago, Cochran has a lot in his game to work on to be AFL ready. But even if he is able to fix what needs to be fixed (and I genuinely hope he can) I doubt he’ll ever be a key defender.

I’ve not seen Andrew play at all, and I get that he’s a long shot. But I did watch a bit of an interview with him where he talked about what he learned about body positioning against his key forward peers, which indicates he’s seen as a potential key back.

You would have to guess they would have had Riak + 2 or 3 open pool key defenders above Joel Cochran in their rankings to let him slide else that is ballsy to go for broke with him.

And without the explosive pace of Blakey either. Cochran is quick but not Blakey-quick. (Few are, and I think he’s quick enough. His kicking is the main issue, together with a bit of timidity.)

This was a terrific draft for the Swans. Would give it a B+
Loved the selections and even though I would have liked to explore a trade into 28-32 for a future 2nd etc and grab one of Shanahan, Whitlock or Mraz I can certainly live with the results.

Dattoli seems like he is going to be a terrific player and has a lot of what the Swans need. He will be a forward/mid early on but his ball skills look great so he will find his way into the middle a lot in a few years. Future midfield of Cleary/Dattoli/Sheldrick is going to be great.

Bowman seems like a risky pick, lots of upside but might not pan out. The main thing I like with the first two picks is they can mark well above their head. Bowman won't play next season, but hopefully he can show something in the VFL.

Bice is a great pick. This just adds to the defensive run depth. He will be depth early on, but at 24 he is ready to go if injuries hit and who knows, the club might see Roberts moving into the midfield/forward more. Again, he might not turn out, but the pick itself is a good one.

Think we will look back on this draft and say McAndrew was the gem for the Swans. He is going to need time and some luck to build his body without sustaining injuries, but if he can do so he is going to be the future intercept defender alongside Blakey. What a duo these two will make.

He was one that I would have liked to see on the Swans list. There is something about him that makes me feel like he is going to be a good AFL player. Bulldogs got a steal IMO.

Neale is listed at 178cm (looks more like 170-175cm to me having seen him in real life) and Ashcroft listed at 182cm (again in real life looks more 175 -178cm). Dunkley is listed at 191cm. On average, Heeney, Rowie and Chad were comparable in height on GF day. Difference was all 3 Lions built like the proverbial out house, very strong and hard to beat collectively and one on one. Our boys need to bulk more over the summer.

Or that too. The thing with Adams was he could have gone to Neale and played a role on him like he did previously. They simply had too many winners though and wouldn't have mattered anyway.

To me the big point with Logan is how far from goal he is asked to play. IMO it has cost him 10 goals or thereabouts. If he is played closer to goal and has better chemistry with Amartey in particular I reckon he'll go close to 50 this year. That would be a very fair return.

True. And when we look at Logan if you look at this year being an average for the rest of his career and he plays, say 10 more years he is going to end up with a lot of goals despite playing away from goal a bit.
Realistically if he stays injury free and just improves marginally on his accuracy he would go past 500 goals for the club comfortably. Only 2 players have done that.
