Then what was the point if we didn't get anything back? We were always ahead of FreoWho they spent a first round pick on recruiting.
They had a pick before Freo.
West Coast ask Freo if they want Allen. Freo say no we want Berry. So West coast ask what they'll offer to move up.
They then have the same chat with us asking us to beat Freo's offer to stay ahead of them.
Freo were never selecting Allen either.

Pick 23 - Richmond: Harry Armstrong
Position: Tall forward
Size: 193cm
Clubs in recent days had wondered whether Armstrong would slide this far - he was linked to St Kilda's second pick at one stage - but to get him at 23 is a big result for Richmond.
Yeah that makes more sense.
It also means we were 110% in on Berry
Yes, and 10 picks till we're up.Tomorrow night
Trainor and Armstrong. What a steal!
Surely you see us getting bent over at the trade period and draft. At some point you will have to question why it happens to us, and why other clubs keep benefiting off it and win flags, while we continue to extend our 21 year premiership drought.I just don’t claim to be an expert like everyone else. Won’t be quitting my day job to be a list manager any time soon.

Only if your a Vic club.Ffs.
Lalor, smillie, Hotton, faul, Armstrong , trainor
That’s an epic haul. What a rigged comp this is that a team can get this haul in one year.
We need depth, with the position of our list, constantly adding deep picks due to our 'minor round' success, we really can't afford to be coughing up currency.Port trade a 3rd rounder to make sure the player we want doesn’t get stolen by another club.

You’re assuming we were even going to use 45. Wasn’t it announced we were only drafting 3 players and upgrading McEntee. We need depth, with the position of our list, constantly adding deep picks due to our 'minor round' success, we really can't afford to be coughing up currency.
Effectively we've said instead of Reid/Allan/Armstrong/etc & 45, we think Berry and 93 is better. It's strange trading.
Ah well. Hope Berry plays round 1!
I've got no idea about it all. I am happy with picking Berry. That doesn't mean you can't evaluate on the surface what looks like a really strange move.I just don’t claim to be an expert like everyone else. Won’t be quitting my day job to be a list manager any time soon.

They’ll be winning flags again in another 6 years.Ffs.

Come finals time (if we make it again) people will be complaining how easy our players are monstered by other bigger bodied sides. We need depth, with the position of our list, constantly adding deep picks due to our 'minor round' success, we really can't afford to be coughing up currency.

That hasn't been announced. We had 4 main list spots, with the last at 45, and 1 rookie, I would suspect we would use pick 45, rather than an extra deep rookie pick that could end up at 30 odd in the rookie draft. Effectively something around a pick 100ish.You’re assuming we were even going to use 45. Wasn’t it announced we were only drafting 3 players and upgrading McEntee.
Berry will be better than Reid/Allan/Armstrong put together (in before future quotes)
