Discussion 2024 AFL Fixture & Byes

Don't know how Round 0 cannot count. Will and should be included in history, scores, averages, etc. and you can't just discount that. It effectively places players at 8 teams at a disadvantage in playing one less game the entire season.

Don't think it's going to happen. More likely it's a reduced scoring round. Reckon a best 10.

All pre season I read posters talking about can't have too many players who played in opening round. Looks like you could definitely have 1 from each team if it's best 18
How many on each line was where it got tricky to pick a team, Fwds a good example, Flanders, Heeney, Jordon SexTON, Cadman, Windsor.

Gibcus is out for the year, better to trade him now?
Correct, provided there is a decent bubble boy I can afford.

Thinking of trading Fyfe down to Lyons now, so I have enough for a straight swap Gibcus to D'Ambrosio if required.

If Hore goes alright today I reckon I'll keep Fyfe and just do Gibcus to Hore this week

On my current team l will have 0 players out in round 5.
1 in round 6,
5 in round 12,
5 in round 13,
3 in round 14 and
3 in round 15...

so l'm planning to keep at least 2 bonus trades for rounds 12 and 13 just in case l need to use 4 trades in a round..

I still just randomly start day-dreaming about the insanity of the AFL fixture this year. Try explaining it to someone.

A sensible foreign sports fan comes to visit. Let’s call him Ron. He sees footy on the TV.

Ron: Oh, cool, I like this footy. It’s pretty rough though. Do they play every week?

Me: Yeh…. Well, no.

Ron: What do you mean?

Me: Well, they play 23 games.

Ron: Everyone plays each team once?

Me: NO! That wouldn’t be enough games.

Ron: Oh, they play everyone TWICE!

Me: NO! That would be too many games. There are 18 teams and they play 23 games.

Ron: Seems a bit weird. Do they just sort of randomly assign games?

Me: NO!

Ron: Oh, it’s based on where they finished last year.

Me: NO!

Ron: Anyway. Whew, 23 weeks, that’s a tough season.

Me: NO! It’s 23 games over 24 weeks.

Ron: They have a mid-season break or something? Makes sense.

Me: NO! We have byes.

Ron: Bye, week off, same same.

Me: NO! Not everyone has the same week off.

Ron: Oh half the team’s one, week, half the teams the next?

Me: NO! There’s 18 teams that doesn’t work.

Ron: Right, right. So over three weeks. 6/6/6.

Me: NO! 6 teams one week.

Ron: Yeh.

Me: 6 teams another week.

Ron: … that’s what I’m-

Me: TWO teams then.

Ron: ...

Me: Then… 4 teams.

Ron: Wh… OK, so I get it, everyone has a week off…. Bye…. 23 games over 24 weeks.

Me: NO! We added a round this year.

Ron: Oh, there’s a round 25?

Me: NO! At the start. Round 0.

Ron: Oh, I see. We call that an exhibition game.

Me: NO! It still counts.

Ron: Right, so everyone plays an extra one this year.

Me: NO! Only 8 teams.

Ron: So 8 teams play an extra early game… then take the first week off?

Me: NO! They can’t all have the bye at once. Only 2 per week.

Ron: Like those 8 teams take a week off, 2 at a time, for the first four weeks?

Me: NO! Everyone plays round 1.

Ron: OK, THEN 2 at a time for the four weeks after that.

Me: NO! Everyone plays round 4.
