Its not so much they haven't approved it as they need another year to embed down how much the Vics can milk it for.

I don't like our Qatar sponsorship either but I think the degrees of separation make them a little different.

We're sponsored by Qatar Airways, an airline that is owned by the Qatar government. We're not sponsored by the Qatar government. When we promote Qatar Airways we're promoting plane food, plane suites, departure lounges etc. We're not telling people to visit Doha or touting what a good bloke the Emir is. Yes it ends up putting money into a government with a terrible human rights record, but so does every trip someone makes on a Qatar or Emirates plane, or every day-to-day activity that is run by Saudi oil.

TAB is gambling. It's their entire purpose as an organisation. How are GWS even going to promote their sponsor without directly promoting the concept of gambling?

And given that every Qatar Airways flight from Australia goes to Doha ..... advertising Qatar Airways is telling people to visit Doha!

I love the Swans - but I'll never be comfortable with the Qatar Airways sponsorship.

I think the degree of separation lies in what we're promoting. It's an airline, we're promoting it. TAB are a betting company, GWS are promoting it. Huge difference IMO. If you want to get into the details of whose money ends up in whose pockets, then we're all culpable, so there's no point.

Yep it really is a shit show and in Utopia we would only have saintly sponsors and those that have passed the clean test, but we don't live in Utopia and all clubs need sponsorship dollars.
