Errol shouldn’t be captain any time soon. After the Gold Coast game late in the year it showed that he’s going to be susceptible to a tag and won’t influence a game. He’ll work his way through it but he doesn’t need the leadership added to the mix.

Sheldrick has played 9 games and missed a lot of football through injury in his first two seasons. In Mills absence he isn’t going to be the saviour to our midfield. He’ll contribute but the expectations beyond that seem a bit much.

I would say they are quite reasonable opinions. Errol can easily have a 2024 like Chad had this season. He is going to need to learn how to cope with the extra attention. It would not surprise me if he has a down year. A captain role should be out of the question.

IIRC some club crucified two young players by making them co-captains some years back before they were ready but I can't remember the details. Maybe someone else can.
In any case, hasten slowly seems the thing to me.

This is completely fair and couldn't agree more. Logical and makes sense

How ****ing dare you with this slander against Gus?

SAS rise up!

One of the puzzles for me for 2024 is what happens with Ladhams. It was pretty obvious that we intended for him to be the #1 ruck post-Hickey but obviously that isn't happening except through injury so what next?
Do we:
1) revert to his role at Port as second ruck and tall forward?
2) or does he become spare? If the former, does he start in seniors
3) or practice that in VFL while Stretch performs the main ruck duties?
Can he do any of these without his head exploding?
We need to try to get value out of him for the next two years and he could be a good player, best 22, if he gets his head together.
If.
Personally, I can see a scenario where we might trade him if the deal is right. Maybe even in the BG deal?

I see McLean and Amartey, even Buller, as the options for the fwd/ruck role, and worst case, we have Stretch with another preseason under his belt and the above 3 in support (if BG is rested or injured).

I think all three are better forwards. More disciplined in terms of playing a role and adequate second rucks. If his head is in a decent place Ladhams is a good ruck but plays kinda loose as a forward. I imagine that Horse, Cox and Macca plus possibly Kirky will sit him down and explain the situation and what he needs to do. Whether he's capable of doing it is the big question.
I think he starts out as CHF and second ruck in VFL to demonstrate that he gets it and can do it. Hopefully he rips it up and gives himself and us more options. Stretch plays first ruck.

Let's see if I can do this again and not forget Gulden given who we are linked to:

B: Cunningham - Melican - Rampe
HB: Blakey - McCartin - Florrent
C: Campebll - Rowbottom - Gulden
HF: Hayward - McDonald - Heeney
F: Parker - McLean - Papley
R: Grundy - Warner - Sheldrick
INT: Amartey - Lloyd - McInerney - Wicks

Emerg/Sub: Jordon, Clarke, Francis, Roberts, Hayward

Parker forward for Hayward
Sheldrick replaces Mills

Hello Horse 🐎 good to see you back on the board, except you forgot to pick Hayward, probably instead of......

I'm dropping Hayward for Parker who is spending more time forward to allow inside minutes for Gulden/Sheldrick

Rampes and Parker are on the downhill stretch and likely mills gone for a year. Errol should be skip. Not only is he our best player, but by the sounds of things he is a manic trainer and carries himself very professionally.

Great leader and has a chance to lead the club for a decade
He also understands the game so Horse said. Players, even older players listen to him

I hope Sheldick exceeds your expectations. :)
