Hopefully we finally have a tap ruckman that can give our mids first use and if it all clicks and they can get it out quickly to our dynamic ball users, we should go from ho hum midfield to dynamo midfield.
This is the year. Best midfield since Mumford / Kennedy / Jack / Bolton / Hannebery

Rusty…. Rusty… (Stage Whisper) let’s put Gus in the mids and Rowy in depth (Stage Whisper)

….. and quietly watch C88.
Wouldn't be anything quiet about my reaction.

Club would also probably wonder why the player they viewed as 3rd most valuable 2 years running, is out of the team (I assume Kinnear has Rusty's spreadsheet permanently displayed on a TV in the list offices).

Terrible Mills is injured.

I was wanting Parker and Sir Dane to drop their co-captaincy and increase their mentoring activity.

I'd have run Callum as sole captain with the two hardest workers in Gulden and McLean as his Deputies.

Thoughts on 2024 leadership group?

For mine …
OUT: Hayward
IN: Gulden

I know some of you think it may still be too early, but I think taking on leadership responsibilities will be like water off a duck’s back for Errol (he’s a born leader!)

Thoughts? (will be interesting to see how many dislikes I get 😂)
Isn't the leadership group voted on by the players? So its less about what the coaches think and more about whether the players think he's going to be able to lead on field with them. I think they'll give him another year but after that I'd expect to see him in.

Zero dislikes and one big like from me.

Yep. But iirc the coaches have a say in the captaincy.

This year there seemed heaps in the LG. I expect that group helps organise media events etc.

Agreed but the conversation isn't about captaincy. Swannie0307 was addressing if Errol should be in the leadership group and replace Howard. I'd say no.

We also have Adams & Grundy now in the middle who are far more experienced, the group may elect one of them instead.

Agree about Gulden. He's clearly embraced the leadership aspect of footy so there's no point prolonging what is essentially just a formality anyway (see: how often the likes of Buddy & Heeney used to be talked about as mentors and leaders even when they weren't in the leadership group.)

Hayward I suspect also stays because at the end of the day the leadership group is just a glorified popularity contest and if nothing else, he's very popular. On that front I can also see any of McCartin, Blakey, McInerney & Warner getting promotions.

Difference between on field leadership and off field stuff . My eyes tell me Errol is an on field leader that the team listens to.

No Grundy/Adams to lead in the middle when Parker gets injured?

I expect them to offer plenty of leadership for sure but not sure how common it is for guys to be voted into leadership groups right off the bat. Stranger things have happened though.

And don't you mean IF Parker gets injured ;)

Course they will whether they are elected in the Frat House or not.

If Parker stepped down from captaincy he would still be a loud organising voice on field.

So much of the Captaincy is off the field and the leadership in general, makes it hard to judge.

From what we see I wouldn't put Hayward Heeney or Papley near a leadership group.

Season is completely over now.

Club is in a brilliant spot for 2024. Anything which isn't a top 4 finish is a failure.

Honestly where the list is at we are in such a strong position for 2 premierships over the next 4 years.

Long time before the season starts, guess I'll focus on my Bretonnians until the season starts

It might have been better to have got the next quality notch up in KPD in both trade and draft (Barrass and O'Sullivan) but let's be real, we did pretty well with who we got and we got lots of upgrades.
Mills MIA and Ladhams hit with the crazy stick seem the only genuine weaknesses in our list.
New and old players still have to learn how to get the best out of each other but hard and smart work should get us there.
We finally have decent quality depth across most of the park and in the pipeline so well done to Kinnear and co.
Really looking forward to 2024 season.
2025 might be even more interesting.
