2024 Aussie Summer of Cycling

Cecille Ludrup showed her class winning today - The only one who can trouble her on stage three is Gigante - Will say that Jayco needs to ride a calendar in 2024 that suits the talents of their riders - They ride a suitable calendar and they get 10 to 12 wins, however if they ride an unsuitable calendar, then its less than 5 wins.

Bradbury should be up there. With stage win bonus time, Ludwig will still probably need to win the stage to win overall. Whether there is a team that looks to take the sprint bonus could make it closer. AG Insurance did a stack of work yesterday for little return, Gigante still has a lot to learn about bike racing.

I think they need to split RRG and Manly's schedules. The Aussie girls all get along well and want to share the results around but it's probably not in the teams best interests. Manly seems to be in pretty good form at Nationals and here.

I have previously posted that Gigante is by far the most talented aussie women rider in the last 25 years - She has issues to fix such as living in Europe and more efficient riding in the peleton - She has the skill set to win a GT if she can fix up the issues - I would like her next to ride the UAE Tour in February because she will experience cross winds and the Jafeet climb. Its a pity that Jayco has never got her in the team.

Now to Jayco's women's tour - It's a poor team by WT standards, so they need to select a race calendar that suits their rider's talents - They can win 10 to 12 wins if they choose a low key calendar BUT if they ride a similar calendar in 2023 then they will 5 or less races in 2024 - The current state of the team is frustrating because they have money BUT a combination of them not being a favored team among riders, and few suitable riders coming off contract will make 2024 a challenging year.

Any confirmation yet if Ewan will be at the start list tomorrow after his illness?

The sprint result was unsurprising, seeing that Ewan is not 100% - Will say that Ewan should be relying on his sprint train to go head to head with Bora as opposed to Ewan being dropped off in the last km - O'Brien and Stewart are good as the last two men - Tomorrow is an interesting stage - It should be a reduced sprint which would favor Grmay or Strong, however, Welesford and Ewan were climbing well in the Aussie RR.

Isaac Del Toro used shadow sneak. It was super effective.

When they just about got Simmons and the AG2R rider back I thought it was gonna be Ewan or Girmay. Great attack by Del Toro

Watching him race the crit was pretty amazing for a young climber, this is at another level. Not many can come straight into WT and have this kinda race nous. UAE get another one, they haven't developed anything, just keep on signing the best youngsters each year.

You still have to develop these riders to reach a high level in the peleton - Plapp wa super impressive today - He can do Porte type numbers on Willunga Hill, and at that time, there were only two or three riders from the peleton who could possibly match Porte - Things are looking for Saturday.

Dispaoointing for Plapp to crash out when he was the one to beat in the TDU. Jayco will have to push yates more whoi is not ideally suited by Willunga Hill and is travelling to the Alula Tour after the TDU - Best to rest Plapp and eait for the UAE tour which has a soft field and he can do well with the race having an ITT.

Welsford again. Just too good.

Jayco really need to sort out their sprint train. They looked like they had it right at 4 km to go with Hepburn, O'Brien, Stewart and Ewan but Ewan lost his position again and the rest sort of scattered after that.

Tomorrow I feel will be Haig, Fisher-Black, Yates, Alaphilippe, Calmejane, Bennett, Vader and Storer trying to light it up.

Hopefully Yates can turn it around and get a win + GC. Bora leadout wasn’t perfect but compared to Jayco lead out every day, still looks great
