Team Mgmt. 2024 Best 22 (or 23)

Redman McKay Ridley
Mcgrath Reid Martin?

Duursma Parish? Cox?
Draper? Merret Durham?

Geulfi? Jones? Stringer
Langford Wright Gresham?

Caldwell? Perkins tall sub? sub: development spot

3rd bench spot rotate based on development and opposition. Caddy, roberts, tsatas, Hayes, byran, davey.

We ain't winning much soon so should always have one spot on development and purely getting games in even if a fair bit of our best 22.

? Spots should be highly contested. Martin/durham play but more position ?

Kelly m plays most weeks when need expirience, defensive pressure.

This is ideal but in reality setterfield, heppel, goldy and laverde are playing most weeks to sure up the team as its fairly future focused.

IMO this is how Scoff sees the 23 fully healthy:

B: Ridley - McKay - Martin
HB: Redman - Reid - McGrath
C: Kelly - Merrett - Duursma
HF: Perkins - Wright - Stringer
F: Langford - Draper - Gresham
R: Goldstein - Parish - Durham
I/C: Setterfield - Caldwell - Heppell - Guelfi
Sub: Cox/Hobbs/Menzie

I reckon if all goes well Jones replaces Goldstein and Davey replaces Guelfi

We need more pressure

Agree, I'd put Goldstein out for Jones.
Heppel out for roberts/davey/caddy - development

That fwd line has no pressure or defensive attributes at all.

I really don't think we can play all of Wright, draper and Goldstein. We're just to poor defensively to carry 3.

this is long term thinking, but depending on where we are by round 20~ or so, i think it'd be a good idea to get some games into youngsters like Caddy & Roberts (assuming they're playing well in the VFL) if we're either cemented in the finals or not making them, providing them with that opportunity will go long way to improve their skills and play against higher quality opposition (in my opinion)

my personal best 22 assuming full health

Ridley McKay Redman
McGrath Reid Caldwell
Martin Merrett Durham
Draper Setterfield Stringer
Perkins Jones Parish
Langford Wright Gresham

IC Cox Hobbs Dursma Davey
Sub Hind/Guelfi

That actually looks like a very good side if some of the younger guys develop into reliable players

May be best now but I am not sold on the long term. Not much forward pressure.

Structurally it’s 3 pressure forwards (counting Parish, Gresham and Davey) + 2 midsize forwards (Perkins and Langford) who should be decent.

Obviously there’s always ways to upgrade. Stringer as a mid is on borrowed time and can’t play in that forward line. So it’s mid or bust.

Hayes, Baldwin, Roberts, Bryan, Tsatas, and Caddy chomping at the bit for more opportunities. Think the team should still have the goal of trying to build depth/talent level via drafting or F/A maybe trading some experienced players out for FRPs if the right opportunity presents itself.

It is one pressure forward. Gresham does not have the pace to play genuine pressure forward and Parish is a midfielder not a pressure forward. Midfielders do not make pressure forwards . You only have Davey as genuine pressure and he is still a level back from where he needs to be.

Crazy setterfield is rated so highly in many teams. Cheap depth but I dont see him as starting on ball or guaranteed best 22.

Durham, caldwell, parish, merret all ahead for mine.

Probably takes hobbs role on weekend but I'd be leaving the rest as is.

I always feel setterfield is slow but other have said has good pace?

I’m using SF and Pressure forward interchangeably. I also think Parish is/should be fast enough to apply decent pressure. Might not be an elite guy but should do enough.

He was a good HF the first 5 years of his career.

You’d like more speed and would be looking for an upgrade there sooner rather then later with one of Stringer/Hobbs/Parish making way but for now I think it’s the best option to maximise talent/useful forwards on the team

Parish has never been a high pressure player. Midfielders that hunt the footy in general do not make good pressure forwards. I know what you are trying to create but there are specialist spots and good sides have fast pressure forwards. Not converted midfielders. They can play a role in the rotations but they can not play the full role.

Not crazy at all. When he has played midfield we have generally been good. The fact that Durham and Perkins stepped up has given us more options and not totally needing him there but you can not say when he has been fully fit that he has not made a difference to the side. You need 6 or 7 midfielders going well.
