Pick 53 - Collingwood - Josh Dolan (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro)

Classy forward, write up to come later.

Monocle with Geelong I believe

Bas*ard ..... you have done it to me again.

Was driving home thinking I should be up and I will take a player who I thought should have been off the board by now and was excellent value.

Get home and some SOB has plucked him one pick before I could.

Excellent pick by the way.

You deserve it after pipping me with Lindsay 😛

Pick 53 - Geelong - Clancy Dennis
Pick 54. Geelong :geelong: - Clancy Dennis - 195cm - KPD - Claremont.

Dennis is an agile tall defender that is very good in one on one situations where he generally win the contest, and then he is able t use his leg speed to move the bal out of the defensive zone. One of his better game features is his ability to read the ball well in flight and then successfully spoils the contest or intercept with a mark.

Bit of an old fashioned defender that hates getting beaten and therefore generally stay committed to the task of totally negating his opponent.

He has a couple of other aspects to his game that I like.

  • Leadership
  • Consistency

While he is by no means an out and out star, what he is, however, is a very good role player and these are the sorts of players that Geelong love to draft a, whereby they then blend together, into a well drilled collective, as each role player does his job and then complementary team football, comes up a winner

Pick 57 - Gold Coast - Rhys Unwin
Pick 57. Gold Coast :goldcoast: - Rhys Unwin - 179 cm - Forward- Greater Western Victoria.

A damaging quick agile and creative player, that thinks his way through traffic and get separation from a contest.
Predominantly a tricky left footed forward, but can also take a turn in the midfield rotations.

Impressed at the combine with a 2.88 20 metre sprint and impressive results in the agility test, both sets of combine results don't surprise as all the do is back up the game day tape.

He was one of GWV better players across the CTL season.

He is:

Smart
Quick
Agile

Lot to like about this kids ability.

Pick 58 North Bid on Malakai Champion

Monocle you are on the clock again!

I don’t actually rate him as high as this and I feel he may well not make it at the next level.

But for the sake of the exercise I will match the bid.

Pick 58 - West Coast - Malakai Champion (Matched Bid)
Pick 58. West Coast :westcoast: - Malakai Champion- Subiaco.

I have matched the bid on him, with some reservations however here is the profile.

West Coast have access to Malakai through their NGA Program.

There is absolutely no doubt that Malakai has real X factor and has some special tricks, he just need to get some consistency to his game.
He is a player that drifts both in and out of games and quarters.
My second reservation with him is that he is just so very tiny, and I worry about him being able to match it with the much bigger bodies that he will face at the next level.
He has already been troubled by injury, sustained at a more physical grade of football.
He urgently needs to build up both his strength and his endurance, as he doesn't have either at the moment, to be able to compete at the AFL level.

He is speedy and smart around goals and he needs to be closely watched by his opponent, because if he is given a mili second to pounce, then he can hurt you.......... he needs to do it more often and if he can do this, he will be very entertaining to watch.

Pick 60 - Carlton - Jaxon Artemis
Pick 60 - Carlton - Jaxom Artemis - 181cm winger/half back

If this kid was a little more consistent with his output, then he has enough AFL traits to go higher in the draft. He will show glimpses of ability and then go missing for stretches of a game. Carlton have stated they want speed in this draft and Artemis plays with speed and flair. I don't mind his ability with the ball in hand and I would start him as a winger/rebounding defender. He does take the game on with his kicking and I like his ability to redirect the ball back into the corridor.

Pick 61 - Essendon - Jacob Newton
Pick 61 - Essendon - Jacob Newton
179cm - Small Forward/Midfielder

A clean and damaging player who is a terrific kick on his left boot and a great finisher. Essendon usually fall away with their entries inside 50 and Newton would be one of the best players in the draft kicking inside 50.

Newton is a nice solid size and shouldn’t take long to play senior football, Newton is a powerful little player but not having that outright speed and natural crumbing game as a forward sees him as a later prospect but his best traits I feel still make him a damaging player.

Plenty of good talent still on the board, if Essendon didn’t already have a lot of small midfield types I would have taken Hargrave here.

Pick 62 - Brisbane - Harry Charlson
Pick 62 - Brisbane
Harry Charleson
GWV Rebels / Vic Country

Understandably getting a bit light on at this point of the draft. I'm not the biggest Charleson fan but he has plenty of transferable traits. He's got that coveted speed/endurance combo, he's a capable interceptor and solid user by foot. While he's generally played across half back, those qualities should allow him to settle into a variety of different roles if he gets a chance at the next level.

Other players considered: Joel Cochran, Adrian Cole

Not considered: Key forward. It would've been more of a consideration had I been picking with an early selection, but with Logan Morris, Brandon Ryan, Luke Lloyd and Henry Smith (ruck/forward), I just don't see the value in adding another project in the 60s.
