If you read ScrappyDo's later reply it seems we are as good as replacing Howard with Butts from Adelaide. I dont know much about Butts however trust Gubby and SOS to make the right call. I have openly said Howard is a GOP and believe we need to look for a full back who is capable of actually taking an intercept mark rather than just spoil.

I disagree re Cordy yes we got him for zip as a free agent backup, he did cost $$$ in the cap and a 3 year contract. This in my mind is 3 years of missed opportunity to grab a player with a much greater future. He has played a number of games due to injury, but gees every game has been flawed and the greater percentage he was subbed out because of his limited output.

Butts won't be free. Probably cancels out any compo we get for Howard. He's a really average player but more of any accountable one on one defender than Dougal who really is more of an oversized interceptor playing a role that he's less suited to.

Howards spot is much harder to fill than Battle's plus the return for losing Howard is much less than what we might get for losing Battle.

Cordy was picked up as cheap back up - the fact that he has played more than 50% of games since he was signed justifies his contract.

I reckon the opposite. Interceptors are impossible to find good ones.

Lalor is having an absolute stinker of a match so far

Very impressed by Travaglia tho who I really like in the late first round range. Half back/mid if we want to go with a more versatile type

He’s a big kid, but has struggled to get active or have impact around stoppage, seems to lack mobility, so they’ve chucked him deep forward and hasn’t provided a leading option or impact any ground balls. Based on what I’ve seen, I would be very surprised if he gets taken high 1RD around our pick.

I’m at the WA vs Vic Country game, and Lalor has been quiet so far, not very active at stoppage just yet

Yeah he is not showing that in and under burst game that he is supposed to possess. Looks a bit tentative in close and has dropped a few marks he should have taken forward. Langford and Burmeister are the stand outs thus far for Vic County plus Hayes from WA.

Lalor looking like he needs the run so far. Been pretty underwhelming first half. Spent majority of it up forward, but hasn't got his hands on it much when in the middle.

Really impressed by Harvey Langford, good size, moves well, and looks to have really good left foot kick.

Archer day-wicks looks like a smart small forward/high half forward. Good goal sense, and strong in the air for a small.

Travaglia just looks like a natural footballer. Not a midfielder, more a 3rd interceptor/running half back that mops everything up.

Been impressed with Taurau, unsure when draft eligible? The youngest duursma will be a top 5 pick next year.

A few of the vic country talls look likely, jonty Faull, the Whitlock twins, and Burmeister the ruckman, although very raw, has huge potential I think. Massive leap on him and moves well.

For WA

Bo Allan also a great size mid, moves well and skills look decent.

Urqhaurt is good in the clinches.

Dan curtins younger brother looks a future gun down back (next years draft)

How’s copper hynes playing? Think he’s playing out of position

I watched all the video I could of him and went right off him. I'm not digging him any more. Prefer Cody Anderson from footage. Gross is the other inside mid option.

Langford seems pretty good to me. Not sure why he's not higher rated.

Hadn't really taken notice of Hamish Davis but he's a mid who seems to have moved forward and kicking multiple goals regularly. Does anyone know what range he's meant to go in?

VC
Langford was really good and clean with the ball giving the conditions.
Archer Day-Wicks looks a classy medium forward, not sure if he gets midfield minutes with Bendigo.
Travaglia is tidy and does the percentage things well - stands out because of his bright blonde hair.
Burmeister 198cm tall with a huge leap, looks raw but will be a player (reminded me a bit of Ryder).
Hynes got plenty of it but he looks too slow for mind.
On todays effort Lalor is a 2nd or 3rd round choice, well off the pace.
The Whitlock twins lack of mobility have both been exposed in the champs, both should slide out of the first round IMO.

WA
Allan has a nice left foot and good from stoppage.
Was most impressed with Boxshall he just looks like a classy footballer with the tools to make it.
Urqhaurt is good in in close and works hard. Kicking is hit and miss.
Curtin (under age) is a star and will be better than his older brother.
Dennis a tall defender did well and looked solid down back.
In the first half wingman Hayes was on fire but faded.

Langford, Boxshall, Allan are the mids who most impressed.

Butts is contracted for another 2 years - Howard isn't.

Unless Howard is demanding huge $'s not sure why we'd push him out and then pay extra in trade terms just to pick up a lesser (albeit younger) replacement.

Cordy was a delisted free agent - 3 years on minimum chips means zero in salary cap terms.

I wasnt aware of the Butts contract scenario but I hardly think SOS and the club would be pushing Howard out without a plan to improve the list. Cordy's would be getting more than a new recruit, a player we could have picked up and developed in those 3 years, Cordy and Howard are taking us no where.

Yeah I agree about improving the list - thats why I don't get the talk about Butts.

As to Cordy - well he's played quite a few games for us already and the player we picked instead of him could well have become another Clavarino, Adams or Van Es.
