Lennox Hofmann

13 disposals, 5 marks, 4 rebound-50s

A St Kilda Next Generation Academy member, Hofmann has been a big improver this year and was one of the Dragons’ best in the Grand Final. A 190cm key defender, he was rock-solid down back spending time on dangerous Rebels key forwards Jonty Faull and Floyd Burmeister. He read the play well and recorded four intercept marks. There should have been a fifth, which was dropped in the third quarter, but Hofmann calmly mopped up. He also got some important spoils in at times. A player with plenty of promise.

Adrian Cole

5 disposals, 1 mark, 3 tackles

Similar to Hofmann, Cole is a rapidly-improving 195cm key defender who is also linked to St Kilda’s Next Generation Academy. With Dragons interceptor Luke Trainor missing the Grand Final through concussion, Cole and Hofmann had to step up – and they did. Cole is very much a lock-down defender and performed that role well against Rebels key forwards Jonty Faull and Floyd Burmeister to also finish among Sandringham’s best players in the win.

Future third tall interceptor and genuine full back.

A fair bit of projection going on. He looked very good but without being able to see him in the champs and under more scrutiny we don't know what he is going to be like. His run was a weapon and his knee going probably puts that back a fair way now.

Whoever gets him is going to gamble that he does end up a star but he's probably a gamble around pick 12 to 18 not a high pick. Take the hyperbole out and he's more a potential top 10 pick with a serious knee injury that has unexposed form. Could be a star or could be another Aiden Boner.
He’s absolutely superb, but I’m always leery about post-ACL kids…

thanks for this, looks really good, third tall eventual battle replacement. Can take a mark and a good leg on him. Only 13 touches but from the looks of things it wasn't down there much. I may be mistaken but if he's replaced trainor and is flourishing it indicates he's been ready just needed an opportunity, which is great for us as he won't get bid on early
Seen enough. Get'im

Difficult to see how the list places will get managed. If we really want these 3 priority access kids we'll need 3 primary list places kept available after what, maybe p40 or so.
If we can land 2 of them as rookies I'll genuinely believe our luck has changed.

I honestly think we will - just start praying old fella!

With Luke Trainor missing through injury, Hofmann played a key role in disrupting the Rebels attacking moves, roaming across the defensive line or setting up down the line a kick from the play and taking intercept marks or spoiling his opponents marking attempts. His bodywork and strength in 1v1 marking contests was especially impressive, and he was composed and constructive with ball in hand.

He's come on heaps.

Chris Judd good? Sounds like massive over hype to me. I rate him but he's still a huge gamble. I'm not taking him before pick 12 if I'm a recruiter.

In the cases of Elwood and Hoffman they could well just tell recruiters that they 100% want to go to Stkilda. Since they'd be borderline 4th round anyway you probs wouldn't draft them against their will.

It feels like recruiters tend to ignore NGA and FS kids a bit and only token bid often. Sydney ironically were always the exception to the rule despite benefitting from others letting them run down the order.

Best l can judge is NGA/FS are ignored until it becomes obvious, or if there's a strategic advantage to be had. In the later rounds clubs will probably just grab the best prospect they can irrespective.
In our case all 3 fit into the latter but Elwood and Lenny are still pegged as rookies which is good for us hopefully.

It's the measure that indicates how far the top of his head is from the ground when he is standing upright......

Hope that helps?
ā€œBut that’s not important right nowā€

Interesting little tidbit… Josh Gabelich on SEN Sportsday 26/9 mentioned the Saints are the one team that is currently in Ireland scouring for talent. Would be a massive list bonus if these ventures were more successful

I heard Misson state just before the season finished that St Kilda was actively looking at Ireland

Using every lever at our disposal to improve the list. This should be the standard for an AFL Club but seems we’ve been negligent for the best part of 15 years.
Couldn’t be happier with the attitude of the club these days

There is obviously lots of talent over there, convincing them to come to Oz is often the toughest part. Geelong seem to be able to find multiple AA in minor leagues, I don't think some of these avenues are scouted enough at times. I'm sure we all have played with players who were levels above their then comps, opportunity and belief is all it takes sometimes. I played with a number of delisted or retired AFL/VFL players and although they were solid players there was generally better local talent playing.

I wonder how many AFL scouts actually go and watch intra league games of the stronger leagues or watch vision of those games. If I was looking for diamonds that's where I'd start rather than Ireland.

Thank god we’re more professional these days.

Our chief scout during the Elshaugh era left a lot to be desired šŸ™„

If Hoffmann can add 3cm to his height, which was measured at 190cm when he was 17... then he could well become a mobile 3rd tall similar to Battle... He looks good
and then if he can subsequently drop back down another 2 cm from 193 to 191 he could be in the mould of one of the greatest FBs in living memory, mr callum wilkington

height shmite is what im saying

Yep. People get lost focusing on what a player doesn’t have or can’t do. Hoffman’s recent match reports have been very promising and he’ll only get better from here. Same goes for Cole.
