How did Jagga play? I noticed during his 50odd possession game highlights there were a lot of meaningless touches and today he had next to no metres gained. Watching the game, how did he go?
I noticed this as well. Good luck to the kid but I really hope we find someone other than him with our first. He's also built like Bruce Reid and as someone else mentioned, U/18's are prone to playing selfish to pad their stats.

Early days but we’d probably have to finish below Adelaide to get sid Draper. Otherwise other midfielders we’d look into would be potentially tom gross or taj hotton, taj showed elite traits but not for a sustained period so is more of a risk. Gross bottom age was unreal and has continued on strong form this year with traits dalrymple would like and has historically targeted.

Do we think we need a pure bullocking extractor style mid (Cripps, Neale) or a second possession clearance mid (daicos, Bont) I feel like Steele and crouch are ok at the first possession clearance, but we lack someone who can then get the handball off them, and explode away from stoppage with either a wicked step or speed and deliver cleanly to forwards. So someone like Draper looks more like that player, compared to smith, who looks a high production type, first touch, but messier. O'Sullivan looks the dream, but if he starts getting on the park, I doubt he is around past pick 1-2z

My concern is that Steele and Crouch are not getting any younger and both seem to be slowing down for whatever reason.
We don't really have anyone coming through who can do that role.

Pou could be. He’s massive and if he can work on his contested craft could be the man for that role. Hes 19… took jack Steele years to cement his place in the afl let alone a midfield. Have to back him in at some stage his vfl numbers have been strong for a first possession inside midfielder. As we know we’ve already got crouch and Steele so you can’t really have too many of that type in your mid. O Sullivan or Draper would be a dream for us

Philipou has demonstrated at times that he can win a good amount of contested possessions, so has Owens.

It was wet and he goes in and gets it. It wasn't a game that showed their best skills. I think he looks good. He's not perfect but there aren't many that are in this one.

Not convinced by him as a mid. Reckon he might end up a utility.

IMO, think we need a bit of both, perhaps a Butters or even Daicos like mid who is versatile.

We just need a Cripps, or a Neale, or a Bont, or a Daicos…

This reminds me of when Ricky Gervais asked David Bowie to write a song for his series Extras:

“I asked if he could do something retro, something like ‘Life on Mars?’ He said [sarcastically], ‘Sure, I’ll just knock off a quick little ‘Life on Mars?’ for you.’”

😃😃😃

Jagga is very Walsh like. If he can show recruiters he can put on some size it’ll go a long way to showing how much improvement he can get.

Pou’s problem isn’t contested ball. It’s uncontested possesions

Apparently north are very keen on him. Might trade back in to get him. He has family connections with them.
Yeah I’ve been the one saying that.

My concern is that the ladder as is probably sees Draper to Adelaide and smith to the eagles.

Leaving us with Trainor. Not that I’d be upset if we had 2 picks. It’s just if we had one I would be concerned.

I’ve heard some brilliant things about Lalor. Keen to see what he looks like off extended exposure.

What's wrong with Trainor .....apart from him not being a mid?
Nothing other then specifically the fact he isn’t a mid.

Which is why I said if we had 2 picks. I wouldn’t have an issue. But if we had 1 pick I would be upset if we selected him

They both now are starting to get ongoing injuries. We shouldn't be relying on them . Which means we need at least 2 very good midfielders

💯 would love him if we get a second pick

If there's live trading, what are the chances North will try to trade up to out first pick with their future first and their second pick, and what are the chances SOS bites? (I'd hate for this to happen)

Still have 10 games to go - Richmond & North will definitely finish below us, with West Coast likely depending on their home form.

That leave pick 4 to us. BUT, we are only 2 games out of the 8. I'm not going to say we are a chance at finals but it shows how close things are.

I wouldn't get caught up on who we'll be left with just yet as anything could happen.

I'll contradict myself a bit though and consider the hypothetical, IF we get pick 4, ignoring Trainor, one of Smith, Smillie, Draper or O'Sullivan will definitely be available. My dream would be someone like Smith 'bolting' into pick one letting O'Sullivan slide a little to us.

I was more being hypothetical that as it stands we have pick 5 and how it plays out.

Jagga snakes through traffic. He's not actually a bull extractor. I'd think Draper is probably a bit more first touch and move the ball out inside mid. I think he's probably a bit of a Jack Steele type. Quite clean and even without much POD but does everything well.

Jagga is a bit of one of those guys that just always seems to be where the footy is even when he's not in the midfield. His game is quite unique. He's small and slippery like a small forward but plays that way in the middle. The question mark would be how he gets through traffic with big guys that will smash him. That said they thought the same with Butters and Merrett and even Lauchie Neale. He dishes off quickly and seems like he has a fast mind.

To me Jagga looks a bit more like he has X factor and plays a more interesting game. I've warmed to Draper but he still doesn't get me excited but he's probably a handy type and should at least be a GOP. Jagga probably more likely to be a star but probably more question marks on how he goes against bigger bodies.

O'Sullivan is a worry that he's always getting injured. I'm always nervous of those guys. Smillie is the one I reckon looks like he's a type that we'd love. He's big and bustling and can play forward when not on ball. He gives Dangerfield/ Cripps vibes.

Trainor scares me that he will be the one available at our pick.

I really like Lalor and Murphy Reid, both look like they won't be around at our second round pick.
