If you are that slow over the first 20 then it's pointless.

"Hang on guys I just need a run up at this stoppage"

It's pointless if you're reliant on pace to burst away from a stoppage which Langford is not. He reads the ball better than most and knows how to find space and work around his initial lack of burst. He is an elite runner on the spread.

Not sure why this is so hard to understand.

The issue for Langford isn't that he's neccesarily slow, it's that we already have Taranto, Hopper, Ross, Prestia, Mcauliffe. Unless we are happy to trade out a couple of them we need to draft mids with speed and a point of difference

While I understand the desire to have speed, it doesn't always mean that the player will be a good player. Take a look at the 20m sprint winners since 2000
20002.82Luke Livingston
20012.83Nathan Street & Mark Dubyna
20022.83Jared Brennan

20172.87Jack Petruccelle

Not many of them that would be rated as top talents

It's not necessarily about being stupid quick, but not being on the other end. A better list would be guys who made it that ran north of 3.2.

Game gets quicker at AFL level and watching the game right now the finals get quicker again. If you're that slow then you'll get caught, be rushed ect more often. Personally I would we draft others with such a high pick who are in the similar ranked but have a touch more speed.

Two best midfielders in the game. Cripps 3.23 and Bontempelli 3.2. Can we move on now.

Neil Erasmus is a player that is a similar size and position to Langford that was drafted with pick #10 just after Gibcus
getting a sh!t load of football and killing it at WAFL but struggles due to pace at AFL level

Things just happen so much faster and the speed required to cover ground quickly is what can make or break a player
Not all players with ball winning ability but lack of pace become a Cripps/Dunkley/Bont

there are alot of Brodie's drafted top 10

For me, speed isn't as important as the ability to find/win the footy, power & agility around the contest and the ability to run harder and longer than the opposition when it comes to midfielders/flankers. Those things were the cornerstone of our premierships. So for me what I want us to focus on are players who can do that and there are plenty of options in the draft this year that fit that bill.

I've seen many posters saying that we need speed, which we do, but we shouldn't be focusing on speedy types, we need to be bringing in a group that compliment each others strengths.

I mentioned yesterday that I wouldn't be shocked to find that our top 3 ranked players at the draft are Langford O'Sullivan & Smith (not in that order) because all 3 of them fit that description above and they compliment each other with the differences in the way they play the game. To me landing those 3 would be the perfect outcome from the draft.

It would make sense for us to go after pick 3 if we wanted those 3. Of course we would probably need to keep 6 unless we know Langford won’t get picked up higher than 9/10.

Full time Falcons v Rebels

Jack Ough 32 disposals 14 kicks 18 handballs 4 marks 1 tackle 7 I50s 2 FF 2 FA
Xavier Ivisic 24 disposals 18 kicks 6 handballs 4 marks 3 tackles 8 I50s 2 R50s 1 FF 2 FA
Jonty Faull 15 disposals 15 kicks 4 marks 2 tackles 1 hitouts 3 I50 4.2
Lachie Jacques 14 disposals 12 kicks 2 handballs 3 marks 3 tackles 3 I50 3 R50
Ollie Hannaford 15 disposals 12 kicks 3 handballs 3 marks 3 I50 1 R50 6 goals
Thought Hannaford stood out today , little bit of mongrel good pace smart forward

Also a fan of ough thought he was the ruckman for a while , he is massive , just kept getting clearances

Only way we get #3 is if it involves Baker +#9
Pick #2 imo from north would be easier to obtain as they are a eager seller to get to #6 but thats not a pick i would be selling to move up

Including baker in a draft pick upgrade trade is pretty much giving baker away for nothing.
Would much rather get pick 18 or something and get an extra 18 year old in this deep draft.
Who can be sure that pick 3 will end up better than pick 9? Plenty of history to show it doesn’t always end up that way.
