Basically means he is shopping around behind the scenes to see what’s viable, will probably come down to that.

I hope he's not angling for a pay-rise on the back of a misunderstanding, and hurt feelings.

Tracca will be a future captain in a couple of seasons, if he stays on.

No one has enough currency for him. But they will at the end of next year when the league allows clubs to trade 2 years worth of first rounders.

In 2027, our contracted, highly paid midfield will be:

• A 35-year-old Max Gawn (final year)
• A 33-year-old Jack Viney (+ one more year)
• A 31-year-old Christian Petracca (+ two more years)
• A 30-year-old Clayton Oliver (+ three more years).

I've called for some calm recently, but that's pretty grim.

Glass half full - last 2 premiers had pretty old set of star players.

Ruckman tend to come on later but hold up pretty well into their 30's. Especially the good ones.

Trac could easily still be in peak form at 31 but ability to rest forward sees him being able to go to 35

Viney I think can transition more forward and get longevity out of that.

Oliver is a huge ? In general but 30 is hardly over the hill if he turns it around.

Pendles, Boak, Zorko and Dangerfield are all around 35 and going pretty good still. Lachie Neale is 31 and still red hot for Brownlow.

While I agree that a defensive forward role should be on the cards for him in future (first mentioned that a few years back), the Parker comparison is a bit off. Parker is much better aerially than Viney. Allows more flexibility as he can go forward and take a grab, whereas Viney is purely a ground-level player.

Agree with that, Parker has more X factor and better mark. Viney more likely to scrounge a goal on sheer will and mongrel bastard. I think Viney would be adequate aerially or atleast in a 1:1 marking contest- just not his role or in that situation much*.

*Disclaimer: I know we average about 1 forward line 1:1 every 6 weeks.
