Yeah did this with a mate, booked a little further out in coburg for two nights for $360 free cancellation before 26th. Good idea posting this!Again, not wanting to get too far ahead of myself, but I would recommend to anyone who registered for Cat 1 GF tickets to make accommodation bookings pronto.
You can do it through booking.com, and make sure that you book a room with free cancellation, in case we get done on Friday
I booked at Mercure Albert Pk this morning, 3 nights for $720, and I can cancel with no fee until next Wednesday. Already, this has gone up by a further $150. A lot of places are already booked out.

Only 4.4km from the MCG, or a short tram/bus trip and a shorter walk. But I don't know Melbourne well - does public transport operate all hours?
Excellent advice.Again, not wanting to get too far ahead of myself, but I would recommend to anyone who registered for Cat 1 GF tickets to make accommodation bookings pronto.

I can remember attending the SANFL double headers at Football Park during the 1980's where Port were playing in the late game watching supporters from the two two teams playing in the early game going hard at it between each other only to then team up and support the team Port were playing in the later game. I could not understand but I was a youngster at the time.To be fair it's a generational thing here. I've attended SANFL GF's since the mid 80's and throughout that time and the 90's, it was literally a crowd made of Port supporters and then supporters of every persuasion going for whomever we were playing. The Port Vs the rest isn't just a saying, it was actually physically practiced.
That's why it is hilarious that when non-Port people talk about our Showdown rivalry, they talk about how they hate us based on that history, but yet then talk about PAFC 1997. In the same vein the non-Vics think the hatred is all based around the AFL entry and what happened then and after. They neglect that our football club had competed in half of the GF's ever played in the SANFL by the 90's. With a higher percentage than that if you neglect our 1800 days when we actually weren't as good. So they hate us because we were always god damn good.
Generations of being sick of Port beating you gets to you. So I'm not surprised it still lives on, despite how pathetic it is. I'd never even think to do that personally. I support Port, not 17 AFL sides.
I'm looking into hiring a private plane IF we make it to the grand final. Turboprop, seats 9 and would cost around $1200pp return on the day. Any interest?
Did it for the Hawks prelim in 2014 was fkd.If you're wanting to do the GF on the cheap, I assume the Overlander will run a special service like back in 2007
Overnight there Friday and overnight back the following day
It's brutal if you don't sleep well seated upright though
Oh dear, I remember that trip very well. Their general seating is not that great, worse than long haul airliners. If you're wanting to do the GF on the cheap, I assume the Overlander will run a special service like back in 2007

The Overland normally departs Adelaide on a Thursday morning (takes around 12 hours) and then returns on Friday but they may do something next week different. Who I work for supplies the locos and train crew but I have not been told any different. If you're wanting to do the GF on the cheap, I assume the Overlander will run a special service like back in 2007

The only train that goes to Horsham from Melbourne is the Overland. VLine Train only goes as far as Ararat from Melbourne.yeah I have a mate who lives in Horsham who I'll stay with on the Thursday night providing we win. I booked the week of the pre finals bye. Adelaide to Horsham by bus ($35), then from there to Melbourne by train on the Friday late morning ($7) then the reverse back on the Sunday, not bad for $84 round trip, thank you vline. Gotta get there first tho!
What happens with the ticket allocation once two teams are eliminated from the finals this weekend?
Is there another round of ticket registrations to the GF because two groups of members are punted from the allocation?
