Seriously if we put Don Scott on the board as opposed to 2 guys will decades of fund-raising, fund management and business experience as we are in the middle of the most expensive project in the clubs history that will either set-up us up for 100 years or cripple us financially if we don't execute properly. Then it will be the members that failed the club not the board.

Don Scott saved the club, him joining the board now could ruin it.

I think the fact that not even Derm could explain what exactly Don could bring to the board other than just being someone who would be in opposition to other people’s opinions said a lot.

In the Clarko years Brett ratten was th constructive advocate in the footy dept but the keyword is constructive.

He is a loose cannon who will endlessly cause disruption, conflict and controversy. His inclusion will end in tears. He is already talking the club down to get elected and it won't stop if he is elected.

Isn't the escalation Don going on radio to air his grievances a sort of escalation?
He did nominate, just refused to go through the current governance review process. Which he has then called bullying (a typical go to slur I think)

Whilst I’m extremely put off Don because the good word is it’s the old Kennett and Nankivell entourage backing him I think his point re the nominations process is right. Essentially unless you have board approval you won’t get endorsed or have any hope to succeed. So wrong and first brought in by Kennett. If Andy was member focused he’d have put pay to it immediately but he didn’t. Where are those champions of transparency hawks for change when you need them?

Do you though? You don't want a board full of Yes Men and it's definitely good to have someone capable of putting forth opposing views every now and then, but there's quite a difference between that and being an antagonising prick. Can't really say where exactly Don falls into that spectrum, but I'd be willing to bet it's closer to the latter than we'd like/need.

One boss I worked for once had a team of 4 (including him). On his whiteboard was one of the team member names; it rotated weekly. If we were in a meeting and came to an agreed solution within 30 seconds, the person whose name was on the Board had 90 seconds to prepare a counter-argument. My boss was worried about groupthink. Years later he told me he kept track of how many times the counter-argument changed our decision: 71%.

SO yes, there's a place for it; but ti should be managed appropriately.

I'd back what Langford in whichever way he feels the club could go forward.
As for Don, I'm not even sure what he would bring to the table that's new, innovative or progressive as far as the future of HFC off field matters!! He's just someone who likes to be an opposition that's always unhappy and cranky. Does anyone know what his future plans are that's different with the current board?

And when he played ... remember Kennedy ringing him years after the '71 GF, I think it was, to acknowledge his performance.

He played for the Hawks like no one else ever has; that crazy, hostile old bastard you see now - for those who didn't see him play - was the same in battle ... young, physical, brutal, uncompromising, manic ... consumed by his responsibility to do what had to be done.

Don fought Kennett a lot as well.
Are the documents submitted to the nomination committee available for viewing? That would give transparency

That’s all fine and dandy, but this bloke has spent more time potting the club admin, in multiple eras, over the last 15 years than pretty much any other premiership player.

Being a loyal servant and premiership hero starts to lose its shine when there’s so many examples now of him being so fond of rocking the boat.

Meh. He collects the discontentment vote and who is not happy with things now days? Maybe if the KCC runs into a major issue or the team completely falls apart with infighting then there will be something for the “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore” platform, but without that this is just a little sideshow. Something for the AGM tragics to gossip about on the evening.

Unfortunately Don is a bit of a caricature these days not unlike his mate Sam Newman. He has been at loggerheads with the club right back to his final few playing years when he famously failed to speak to his teammates.
Let’s hope the members are wise enough to not elect someone so eminently unsuitable to be a club director.

Like Clarkson, Don's time has come and gone. I will always remember him and his fight to save our club. As some here know I still wear the 1996 Hawthorn Jacket to every game just to remind me how close we came to dying.

Surely it doesn’t need to be explained why people are okay with a guy that overstayed his welcome continually having us on the front page for all the wrong reasons getting questioned compared to someone who’s only freshly in the job and doing the opposite.
