Teams will be interested in Haws F1 and not the Blues F1. Blues have pick 3 to go with their strong list on paper.

So teams will bet on them to finish higher than us. We should disassociate our pick 14 trade with any trade offers

We need to play on those views and so Pick 14 is more than fair value for just our F1, ideally we get something back if teams have picks at the back end we can use for our NGA pick.

I don't mind their strategy. Our goal was to hit the draft over 3 years with 7-9 top 30 picks. They'll essentially do the same in one off season. They'll stink for a few years but will have the lure to potentially trade and top up when the time is right. Not sure about Yze though.
The smell around Yze can be seen by the number of players deserting the club.

Will be surprised if he makes it through 2025, because I think they’re going to have no wins and an average losing margin of 80 points by the bye.

I live in Queensland.. there are any number of reasons why I’d prefer to live in Melbourne… Queensland has nice weather but it’s got its own issues, believe me..

Teams will assume Blues finish higher because of an as-yet-undetermined 18 year who may or may not play games with them next year?

I really doubt that is an assumption other teams will make. Any trade will be more about OUR perception of where we will finish.

Needs to be able to build and maintain the right culture despite the losses. That's what has been so impressive about the Hawks maintaining a culture that people enjoyed coming to the club even during the losing years under Mitchell.

Concern for me with Togers is WC paying overs for Baker because they value his leadership and contribution to culture so much - what does that say about him wanting to leave the Tigers.

Potentially straying off topic in this thread. Long wait to 7:30....

In my stalking of other team boards they talk about getting our F1 and not the Blues F1. I would say my assumption is fair.

I expect us to finish higher and so prefer to keep Blues F1. So the assumption of others works in my favour.

Lets not break the assumptions of others is the point being made, on the contrary lets amplify that.

Of course, Bigfooty posters really are the arbiters of trade value, and how clubs think....

Come on now...

Hawthorn will add Lewis, Battle and most likely Barrass to the best 22 from last year, Carlton will add an 18 year old. Are you really suggesting they improve more on paper?

I don't get this line of thinking? We are no worse off than any other club vying to get his signature. No-one else has particularly more assets to use. We have more cap space than most. The main thing that hinders us is we rarely have decent players wanting to leave, so it's harder to bring in first rounders (blessing and a curse in this case). Harder, but not impossible.

We also have the Wiz getting in his ear telling him how great Hokball is!

Also, I wouldn't be buying into the media, WC aren't unreasonable to deal with. They are not Freo/Essendon/Geelong.

The argument that I put forward, is that trying to trade for Reid just seems like a trade that would HIGHLY UNLIKELY to be good value, for any club - not just Hawthorn.

If I were in Weagles position, you can literally ask for the moon & the hype behind him will let you justify that position. If I were them, I would literally say "we only trade Harley for the No.1 Pick + a star player like Jai Newcombe". You might say that's insane, but that would be the level.

Look at the Judd trade: Pick 3, Pick 20 + Josh Kennedy for Judd + Pick 46. I wager Harley Reid would be traded for EVEN more than that.

Off that alone, my point is - you would NEVER get good value to trade for Harley. You would basically give up a star player, plus at least several high picks to get him. It would cost you everything to get someone who MIGHT hit a big peak. To me, that's an insane risk.

Only exception is if you managed to hard ball a club, like Geelong did with the Dangerfield trade. But Danger was an unrestricted free agent at that point, so he could have walked for nothing. Adelaide had zero leverage, except Danger asked the Cats to give them something basically.

TLDR: IMO the hype behind Reid means, as an investment, you would never have a payoff that exceeds his cost. Our recruitment and development is good enough, that we can find much better value than getting sucked in to trade for Harley.

This is all of course hypothetical - Harley might stay in WA and eventually buyout The West so they stop publishing backpage articles on him all the time.

Would MM strike twice ?
Imagine if he traded out a F1 now for a 2024 1st rounder ? Where would that leave the Eagles 🤣
Leaving them with only one F1 left to ask for

It’s done but it’s fun to play around

Exactly.
And Carlton's depth will take a sizable hit with Owies , Martin ,Marchbank and possibly Kemp and Kennedy departing.
Not to mention an aging list and giving up so many future draft picks.
They are delusional if they think they will improve in the next couple of years

Why wouldn’t they ask for 2024 1st and 2025 1st?

Tigs will be a club to put some work into re. their youngsters over the next few years to see if we can pinch any good ones who are disillusioned with the club.
