This season would have to go down as putting up one of the shakiest fields to contend for the flag in a very long time. All have brought in very major flaws and caveats.

We would have gone close if not won the flag if Pearce, Treacy and Darcy were healthy. Baker and Bolton will be big inclusions next year.

We aren't going for Brad Close, he aint as good as Shoota and we clearly didn't want to pay Shoota whatever the pies were offering
Shoota was nothing to do with money come on. He had genuine reasons to be back in Victoria. We were actively trying to extend him long term.

Brad Close is also a load of bullshit. But no correlation between the two.

Sliding doors moment of rushing Alex Pearce back for games against Melbourne and WC instead of giving him 2 extra weeks to heal could be the difference between missing the 8 and winning a flag this year.
Extra two weeks would have done nothing. They other option was giving him the full 8 weeks to heal without a plate and it would’ve been same result.

Close is also from SA.

Having Schultz this season would’ve been enough to have us deep in September. I know people look on the trade favourably because we got a top 10 pick but really he was exactly what we were missing in so many close games.

Also, the only thing I’ve heard oppo fans say about Freddy and Switta is how they want them on their team. The idea they wouldn’t make most teams 23 is crazy.
If we replace Walters with Bolton then I really just worry about defensive pressure in our forward line tbh. If who we have isn't good enough then we'll either play Bolton more midfield or we'll have to make a very tough decision on either Sturt or Frederick. As you say the idea of these guys not making another team's best side is crazy - the idea of us dropping them and keeping them on our list is borderline laughable.

Realistically I'm not sure any team except Geelong (Miers and Stengle) and maybe Brisbane (Cameron and Bailey) really have more than one A Grade small forward tbh. Even with Brisbane you could argue Cameron isn't A Grade anymore and Bailey isn't really a small forward.

Am being vindictive for barracking against Brisbane because I dont want Neale to win a premiership?

Yeah probably but I don’t care.
I just didn't want to see Ollie Henry play in a Grand Final tbh. Very slimy to leave a team where you're best 22 to go to the premiers after only two seasons.

Don't have anything against Neale tbh. I'd probably slightly prefer Sydney winning but that's nothing to do with Neale.

This has been debunked so many times it's not funny any more

It's a bit of a intangible about Pearce's return, but certainly he would've had a high potential to prevent critical moments in those last three games that would've turned those results.

Almost definitely he would've had a huge hand in the Geelong game where Dangerfield marked and kicked that crucial goal in the last. Replace Draper in that contest and Pearce would've had the strength and experience to not be caught out of position there.

But such is footy.

Extra healing would not have saved him from that second fracture if the plate was still insitu.
And the plate would still have been in 2 weeks later.

Small forwards? Cameron sure. Rayner and Bailey are part time midfielders. Lohmann is a Medium forward. Ah Chee was kicking less goals a game than Walters this year.

Is there answer then to have more midfielders play forward roles instead? Can't fit them in the middle then get them in the forward line?
Like Warner, who regularly lines up at half forward?

You're not the first to point it out, but you're absolutely right. So much better than just repeating the same part twice.

I'm surprised we haven't adopted it already. I'd love to see it debuted after our first flag. Imagine the boys heading down to the rooms, jubilant as hell, they've made history. Made a legacy as immortals of our football club. Link arm in arm and then:

"WEEEEEEE'RRRRREEEEEEE"
Without the high pitched "wooooo's" most clubs seem to incorporate into their team songs, live

And in 2009, Fyfe was pick 20 & Sheppard was pick 7.
Where they are drafted should make no difference after a few years in the system
Yes, I know I am probably the one Freo fan here who has not gotten over Brayshaw at pick 2, but if we can't be hypocritical online, where can we? :)

That’s just dumb. Of course it makes a difference. I can’t even be bothered to provide reason.
I guess I’m just upset that Bollenhagen never really kicked on from his 4 games from the 2009 draft. Once in the system he’s no longer a number. His inability to add to his 4 games cost us dearly.
