What I’d do this far out…

Brodie Smith - retire.. far too many other HB options to have smith clogging the list up.
Lachlan Sholl - delist. Too soft
Sam Berry - shakey ground.. needs to turn it around very quickly or he’s delist pile bound
Luke Pedlar - definite keep
Brayden Cook - keep
Ned McHenry - keep if he can continue to be a good sub player form
Ben Keays - keep, but hoping he gets pushed out of the 22 by more talented youth
Matthew Nicks (Senior Coach) - see what happens. No finals again in 24 definitely has to = no more Nicksy.
Lachlan Gollant - up to him.. keep as good depth but allow a trade of he wants more opportunity elsewhere
Patrick Parnell (R) - delist. Too many other options in that position
Mitchell Hinge - long term decent contract
Elliot Himmelberg - will take up FA at GWS. Happy for him to go
Hugh Bond - very shakey ground
Taylor Walker - assess mid year. Re-sign for another year if he’s still performing
Rory Sloane - retire
Chris Burgess( unsure on length) - have to see how he performs
Will Hamill (R) - retire
James Borlase (R) - keep unless petty comes in. If petty come in then delist

So 6 definite “gones” and about 4 other potential “gones”..

But its very rare to move on 10 players in one off season..

I think Smith stays on until 2025 unless there’s a really obvious drop in form. Same with Tex

He won’t play HB anymore, I think (unless injury really requires it). Mainly an experienced wing to help out Jones, Soligo, and whoever else we play there
I have no issue keeping experienced players on our list, give we still have one of the most inexperienced lists... but we must, must manage their games during the season.

I expect the club to remove a lot of dead wood next year. By dead wood I mean serviceable players who were kept for depth purposes during our rebuilding phase. These players were first 22, then best 25 now they will struggle to even meet our emergencies. List priorities change.

you guy's do realise McHenry is the new McKay, he ain't goin' nowhere. You can hate on him all you like.
There's now way he'll be offered another contract unless he has a blinder of a season which is extremely unlikely given his limited skill set. The writing has been on the wall this season as he was only used as sub or emergency or for injuries. We simply have better players now coming through.

There is a list of players we should/will target obviously we won't get them all for me they are:

2 of below would be amazing
Barnett would be the easiest to shake loose

Petty
Oliver
Phillipou
Hayward
LDU
Cumming
Barnett
McCluggage
Tarryn Thomas
Powell

Good list and agree with virtually all except Oliver. Surely if he is gettable, we don’t want him..

Who is in your list? Besides Sloane haha

Is our list full? Or are we 2 short?

In
3 players from draft
Burgess
Keane

Out
Seedsman (Keane)
McAsey (Brown)
Doedee
McPherson
McAdam
Hately
Newchurch

The top 3 I cannot for the life of me see being part of the side in 2025 are:

Sloane - needs to be in the coaches box every game he isn't selected for next season (which i hope is at least half).

Hamill - I just can't see him becoming a part of the next premiership side. Not his fault but bloke has nothing in the core.

Keays - Again, I don't think we can in good faith take a bloke who cannot kick to the promised land. That OOB on the full still haunts my dreams. Ok he will keep getting 1 year extensions but if we are factoring him into our best 22 in 2025 something has gone horrifically wrong.

We are full

But can add 2 x Cat b Rookies for the loss of Newchurch and Borlase

Borlase is now CAT A. Cat B Rookies were additional.

This is all our draftees on the list with the latest three:

Quite a few last man standing...

Great work, well done.
So we haven't traded out a single player from the last 8 drafts.
But 14 out of 52 - exactly one third - have been delisted. AFAIK none of those 14 are playing for another AFL club.
(OK, so including the 2023 draftees who probably haven't had the WH&S induction yet is a bit disingenuous, but it works)

My guess...

Retained
Brodie Smith - 12 month contract
Luke Pedlar - long-term contract
Ben Keays - 2-3 year contract
Taylor Walker - 12 month contract
Mitchell Hinge - long-term contract
Lachlan Gollant - 12 month contract (largely due to impending shortage of KPFs on our team list)

Retired
Rory Sloane

Delisted
Lachlan Sholl
Will Hamill (R)
James Borlase (R)
Patrick Parnell (R)

Free Agent
Elliot Himmelberg - UFA to GWS

Unknown
Sam Berry
Brayden Cook
Ned McHenry
Hugh Bond
Chris Burgess( unsure on length)

Several of those in the "Unknown" group would want to show significant improvement, or they can expect to find themselves in the Delisted group - particularly Berry, Cook, and McHenry. Burgess is a new recruit, and is probably on a 2-year contract anyway. Bond's 2023 season was ruined by injury, but even so, he'd want to show improvement in 2024.

Gollant would be in the "Unknown" group, if we had any other KPFs on the team list. Burgess & Curtin are both new arrivals who are capable of playing as KPFs (or KPDs), but I still think Gollant will be given at least another year to prove himself.
