Is this the same Peter Mitchell who's a passionate Collingwood fan? Just asking.
That's a fair question... but amazingly, no, the guy who reads the news for Ch7 Melbourne doesn't live in America!

That AL crowd for Western Sydney is a really good outcome, the club itself promoted their home game heavily. There’s a few pockets of positivity crowd-wise in AL, smart management has always been its biggest drag.

Their game is so badly run. Hopeless infighting, distracted and mismanaged. The Rebels never tried to immerse themselves into the Melbourne sporting landscape. The ‘fan’ appear so far removed from its managements focus it’s no wonder it’s dying. I fear that the sport is only going to continue to struggle with the national team in a state of confusion and hopelessness. It really is a mess, too to bottom.

Good read an insight on both codes nrl had more viewers last year 15M more less games and (not including Origin). Nrl has 2M more social media followers then AFL and combined nrl teams had more social media followers than afl teams even though afl has one more team then nrl.
Apparently stating facts makes you a troll
The new ratings system will worth that out. NRL won’t come close.

I'm not sure whatever happened to Rugby Union in this country.

It's a great game.

Feel like people have lost interest in cricket too.

It's a warning to the AFL, upper class, predominantly white sports struggle. I know Polynesians and Indians play both, but it's not a big enough mix of cultures in a place like Australia. Cricket didn't even capture the European immigrant community which makes up a large portion of the country.

Even if that was a remotely relevant trajectory for Australian rules football (it isn't), you are nevertheless overlooking the biggest difference in strategy between the AFL and Rugby Australia over the last 10 years which is the promotion of female inclusivity. Participation and audience stat breakdowns are crystal clear about this.

Im worried for cricket when the older generation die off

It doesn't look like there are 40,000+ at NRL Las Vegas.

Did v'landys' lie to us? I am shocked!

Just sounds like you're not really aware of how the BBL brings in new young audiences which are then converted to lifelong fans of the game via Test cricket (particularly vs England & India). Not a single metric justifies your concern.

What"national" team?
The Wallabies are basically only a combined NSW and QLD team with hardly ever having players from the rest of the States and Territories and half of the players are now also from the Pacific Islands and NZ and that is a massive problem when you are trying promote your sport as encompassing the whole nation.

I doubt 1% of Victorians could name the current Wallabies Captain.

Dont forget this is their version of Magic Round/Gather Round too. Its not a great look

Unfortunately, the first moments of rugby league in America were not shown on Fox 1, with the broadcaster staying with the college basketball game between Georgetown Hoyas and Xavier Musketeers.

Instead, the NRL was moved to the network’s secondary channel. The game was finally moved to the main channel 17 minutes into the contest between South Sydney and Manly, just in time to see Lachan Ilias’ ankle-tap on a runaway Jason Saab.

20 years ago we could, we could probably name 4-5 players. And to me, that says it all..

The Official crowd for the #NRLVegas matches of 40,746 is double the previous USA record highest rugby league attendance of 19,320 spectators set in 2018 by a New Zealand and England Test match in Denver, Colorado, at Mile High Stadium.

It is more than double the previous record of 18,000 for a match between clubs, set in 1989 by a Warrington v Wigan challenge match played in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

For the folks playing at home the crowd is also higher than the 32,789 that watched the AFLs Demons and Swans play in Vancouver in 1987 at BC PLace (the record for an AFL/VFL match overseas).
