I allocated for 3 smalls and accidentally had 4 trying to force Guelfi into the side for 3 more game s
just ignore me mate - i’m taking the piss

Better approach all round. Players preparing and rehabbing better after training. Methodical approach to injury recovery and more fine tuned programs for individual players plus more staff.
And as soon as the season starts, our players all drop like flies, now Brad is saying on AFL360 that Guelfi has a minor strain

It happens when the games hit. Port Adelaide looked like they hit carnage in the last quarter so could have been worse
I know it happens to all clubs but its so deflating, we need to build chemistry with Reid Mckay Ridley etc and they're all going down

The result of pushing the players to the level they need to be at. The ones dropping like flies have had a history of similar soft tissue injuries. Just another thing they have to sort out with the list. Draft more endurance runners and you may not end up with as many soft tissue injuries.
Have to say it is not just us. Several clubs are having some issues pushing the limits to be able to play "fast " footy.

Yeah not sure if it's this common for so many players to be getting injured this early on
How long have sides been trying to copy the Collingwood all or nothing style ? It is the new thing so sides are pushing fitness to the limit. Run faster and longer. It is not common as it has not been the style a lot of sides have used.

Will be interesting to see if we see higher than usual soft tissue injuries off the back of our more intense pre-season. Ridley, Parish, Reid and Guelfi… we are at round 2.

All have had some sort of previous history as well .

Too many soft tissue injuries are a symptoms of bad training loads or bad recovery habits even with increased intensity. One is a player problem and one is a S and E problem.

Knowing our club, both groups are ******* it up.

If we had greater player movement and more team ability to turnover the list this is where we would see a meta shift of a team coming in with absolute monsters with good kicking skills, to play smash mouth football.
Bigger and stronger than all the runners to win the ball, beat them up and control the air, and then good ball use to play keepings off.

Who are these absolute monsters with good kicking skills you speak of?

everyone wants monsters with good kicking all of the time, regardless of the “meta”, not sure how greater player movement is going to produce more of them

People will grab one or a couple, but the current state of play is kms in the legs as the game transitions more and more to running power.
There is only so much size you can carry in the team, as a majority of guys will simply lose weight or be unable to run if they are too big.

If this comp had greater ability to change lists quicker, and the ability to actually tap local leagues better for talent, we would see teams change their overall look and style quicker, and you would see more abrupt shifts in the way the game is played (instead of the slow gradual development that occurs currently).
There is talent out there, the system does not allow for risks due to the small list size, and narrow ways of altering your list.

AFL has the chance to be more cyclical than it is, but it takes so long to change a list it's harder to see.
