Nah, lions are cooked. I might be wrong but don't rate their chances of lifting the cup this year.
Wow; differing perceptions are healthy.
I see them as primed and ready to win.
Excluding us in discussions here (anywhere from top 2 to bottom 4 is not crazy), I see Lions, Pies, Demons, Swans as the big threats to top 4.

I think lions will be up there just don't think they'll quite get there. Again. My tip is Swans and pies in the GF.

Fair enough, though that does not equate with being cooked?
From a certain point of view....

I just think they've gone as high as they're going to. I expect they'll make a pf by winning a semi at the gabba again inflating their sense achievement only to get bundled out by a better team on the road. That's if they finish top 4. Gotta win alot of games on the road to do that.

From "Jordan Clark doesn't defend, just runs and attacks and we can't have that in the backline" to "get Max Holmes in the backline, he won't defend but he'll run and attack"

My head is spinning
Clark butchered the ball a lot. He has talent but i was always nervous him bringing the ball from defence.
Can't hate on the kid, he made a choice to go Home.

My least controversial attempt:

Bowes SDK Kolo
Tuohy JHenry Stewart
Blitz Guthrie Holmes
Close Hawkins OHenry
Miers Cameron Stengle
Stanley Danger Duncan
Bruhn Atkins Zuthrie Dempsey
Sub MOC

Changes from 22 premiership are
Smith > Holmes
Selwood > Bruhn
Bews > Bowes
Rohan (inj) > OHenry

I think some might go Mannagh over Bruhn or Dempsey. I'm not ready for that. I think MOC s sub provides flexibility. This is my best guess.

Surely no one has Mannagh over Braun?

He has some fans. I'd want to see him a bit first
I'm huge on Mannagh, but not for Bruhn?

That's like saying bringing in Toby Conway for Jed Bews...they don't even play the same position or role.

Right now if i was to bring Mannagh in it'd be with Gryan moving to the wing full time.
That leaves a pressure forward or high half forward spot open but with Jez, Hawk, Close, Stengle, Henry, Rohan already in those spots he'd be fighting for 7th forward with Neale and Dempsey.

I’ve been one of Bruhn’s biggest critics… mainly in the early days.

Still with that being said… There’d be just about no chance a fully fit Bruhn isn’t selected…and if he isn’t…yeah that’s not good, we need him going to the next level.

I’m very keen to seen Mannagh though.

We didn’t draft a 26 year old to develop in the two’s… We surely have a specific role in mind for him.

I don't think Bruhn would be taking his spot for granted though. It's midfield or nothing for him and it sounds like he knows that he needs to work on his endurance if he's going to keep playing an important role for us there. Guthrie, Parfitt, even Clark are players that didn't feature much last year that will be eyeing his spot.

I dunno, I just don't look at a spot in our forward line I would put Mannagh in which makes him a midfield rotation and like I said, I just don't see where. Drop off the midfielder closest to sub

Was there that much we walked past to draft him though? The Caddy versus COS piece sure but the draft looked pretty thin at the back anyway.

I'd be fine picking him up as depth for 4-5 years at that pick.

Since others have done it i'll give it a go? My Round 1 Best 23

Dwayne Russell is prediciting several young players to stand up for Geelong ahead of 2024 after watching the early stages of a scratch match on Friday morning.

The Cats are gearing up for practice games against Carlton (February 22) and Essendon (March 1), hoping to bounce back to form after a dour premiership defence.

Early signs from Geelong’s pre-season are strong, with Chris Scott’s list in a much healthier position than this time last year.

Gary Rohan was the only player not on the track on Friday.

Speaking on SEN, Russell named the inexperienced players who caught his eye.

“Here’s what I did get today from watching the Cats, I was looking for a few of the younger players, new players to see what they look like so when I’m calling them I know what they look like,” he began.

Read more at link below where he names specific players.

The article says very little to be honest.
The inexperienced Cats Dwayne Russell believes can make a statement in 2024

From the commentary regarding if we were picking him or not I believe it was Edwards that was the bonus pick and not Mannagh.

Really tough year for this.

FB: Mullin De Koning Kolo
HB: Zuthrie Henry Stewart
C: Holmes Zuthrie Blicavs
HF: Miers Cameron Close
FF: Henry Hawkins Stengle
R: Conway, Dangerfield Atkins

I/C: Bruhn, Duncan, Rohan, Touhy

  • I’ve taken a flyer on Mullin based on the progress he made last season and assumption of further progress this season. Could easily be Bowes, Bews, or O’Connor though.
  • I’ve picked Kolo (if healthy) but it might be O’Sullivan starting out. If he’s as good as hyped maybe he holds it but that’s a big ask.
  • I could see age catching up with Touhy and Duncan and Bowes/Knevitt playing just as often in their place.
  • Clark/Conway looks a 50-50 decision to me and will be decided in preseason.
  • I have Bruhn close to a lock but if there was extraordinary progress from one of the young mids (Clark, Mannagh) he could get squeezed (unlikely).
  • Rohan is very tentatively in, a lot comes down to structurally what we want to do, and how Danger is going to be used early season IMO but Rohan out opens the door for a lot of different options.

It seems like the vibe around the pre season has been speed and run. There are a few guys who seem to have dropped a couple of Kgs from Danger on down. So I am thinking that "the need for speed" will be prevalent in the team this season. Of course this will include speed of ball movement so accurate reliable disposal will be part of it. This probably keeps Mitch Duncan in the team. But its the slower older types like Duncan and Tuohy that I suspect will be forced out by younger legs with speed and endurance.

Lots in these parts see Bews out of the side but I cannot see anyone better to put on Charlie Cameron in the Grand Final so it will be an area to watch. O'conner, Mullin, Clohessy or even Willis or Humphries might get a chance there.

With Kolo's availability looking uncertain this week, I am looking forward to seeing someone else come in as a tall back. I am guessing we get to see Jeka who has speed and is an above average kick. I doubt anyone would put Kolo in their speed, run and accuracy group. But for now he is still best 22.

The problem last year was in the middle. Having Cam Guthrie back and a less injured Danger will help. But we need more. Improvement from Bowes, Bruhn and Holmes will help but we need new blood like Knevitt, Clark, Willis, Hardie or Humphries to come on fast. So at least until the picture becomes clearer, Knevitt and Clark are automatic selections.

Looking forward to seeing all the new guys and what the coaches are thinking on Thursday. I have given myself the day off to watch it live but only on TV unfortunately.
Agree to an extent. I've personally got him playing on Bedford in the GF, the problem will be who takes Toby Greene for us.
