Quite like it. Think at least one of bews, kolo or 2e will be in the team (but wouldn't be disappointed if they aren't), O'Sullivan probably doesn't make rd1 but see how he goes against Essendon. Id have mannagh ahead of Bruhn and Dempsey.

Yeah forgot to add Kolo in, he'd be back where Bowes spot is. I'd move Bowes to Int/Emg.
2E i'm not that fussed on, think he's lost a step. May need a fair bit of time in VFL this year.
Bews is gonna be fighting to even keep his spot this year with the pressure for spots.

COS i'm happy to make EMG for Rd 1 but continue playing him in preseason. Give him a shot on Essendon's forwards.
Mannagh i'm a huge fan of and would love for him to come straight in, i just think you can't drop Dempsey after the good game he had. I'd defintely want them fighting for that spot.

O'Sullivan ain't playing Round 1 based off yesterday. Especially ahead of Kolo.

For mine, off what I saw, and who got the most minutes/looks likely to play Round 1:

B: Zuthrie, SDK, J. Henry,
HB: Stewart, Kolo, Holmes
C: Miers, Bowes, Duncan
FO: Stanley, Danger, Bruhn
HF: O. Henry, J. Cameron, Dempsey
F: Close, T. Hawkins, Stengle
INT: T. Atkins, Blicavs, O'Connor, J. Clark
Sub: Mannagh

EMG: Conway, S. Neale, Tuohy, Knevitt

Next up Depth - O'Sullivan, Bews, Parfitt,

**Unavailable - Rohan and C. Guthrie (replacing Dempsey and Jhye when fit - with Dempsey moving to sub role)

That's a really good side, no holes and plenty of depth. Would be happy with this!

For me at the moment:

B: Z.Guthrie De Koning Tuohy
HB: Stewart J.Henry Holmes
C: Duncan Bowes Blicavs
HF: Close Cameron Miers
F: Stengle Hawkins O.Henry
R: Stanley Dangerfield Atkins
Int: O’Connor O’Sullivan Bruhn Rohan*

*If not, Dempsey.
You're picking O'Sullivan? He doesn't look ready to me and I would be putting kolo in. Other than that looks pretty good

Poor Holmes!

Mine (with replacements I'm just as happy with on asterisks), expecting Rohan and Guthrie to miss early.

FB: Z.Guthrie De Koning J.Henry
HB: Stewart Kolodjashnij Duncan

C: Holmes Atkins Blicavs
FOL: Stanley Bowes Dangerfield

HF: Miers Cameron Close
FF: O.Henry Hawkins Stengle

IC: Bruhn Clark O'Connor* Dempsey* Mannagh(sub)*

EMG: Tuohy* Knevitt* Neale*

Back up: Mullin Conway Bews O'Sullivan Parfitt

Guthrie returns, Clark steps out.

Rohan returns: selectors, you decide!

I’m backing the hype train on O.

I have no doubt that this is the side that makes the most sense to me and the closest to what is likely to happen come R1.

It’s very close to what I think I’d do… it does seems pretty obvious who the locks are and it’s just about a fringe player here and there.

Maybe I’ll do my team soon just because I have happily picked holes in other peoples.

I think I’ll copy and paste from this one though and see who I flick around.

Deep down I know our midfield is still weak though… but Guthrie being out didn’t help. The difference between Guthrie and a not fully ready Clark is pretty big.

For me mannagh and dempsey for rohan and tuohy.
They will pick kolo ahead of connor too.

So I have basically agreed with Mr Meow with one change. I like Clark but with his disposals in the preseason match I would like to see him run out in the vfl first.

Tuohy in for him but his body is a watch.

FB: Z.Guthrie De Koning J.Henry
HB: Stewart Kolodjashnij Duncan
C: Holmes Atkins Blicavs
HF: Miers Cameron Close
FF: O.Henry Hawkins Stengle
FOL: Stanley Bowes Dangerfield

IC: Bruhn O'Connor Dempsey Tuohy

I guess I would also debut Mannagh as sub.

Here you go… Pick away.

FB: Z.Guthrie De Koning J.Henry
HB: Stewart Kolodjashnij Duncan

C: Holmes Atkins Miers
FOL: Stanley Blitz Dangerfield

HF: Mannagh Cameron Close
FF: O.Henry Hawkins Stengle

IC: Bruhn, Bowes, O'Connor, Dempsey

Sub: Touhy

Back up: Neale, Knevitt, Mullin, Conway, Bews, O'Sullivan, Parfitt

I did want to get Mannagh in so I have moved Miers from a HF to more Wing/Mid role and I actually think he is ready to go to another level further up the ground, I do think Mannagh would be more solid pushing up into the middle than Dempsey atm.

Guthrie (sadly unavailable) to automatically come back in when fit.

Rohan 50/50 to automatically come back in depending on form of others when fit.

Clark could possibly play since Guthrie is out but personally I just think Mannagh is going to be more effective and consistent right now (but easily could go the other way).

Bruhn + Bowes will to take midfield rotations.

Dempsey to take forward rotations.

MOC (whilst I don’t love him) has the flexibility and fitness to take back rotations + mid if needed.

Could have plonked Clark as sub but I’d rather him play full matches and learn to dominate in the VFL then come in.

So Touhy seems a good sub option as he has flexibility/experience + him playing limited minutes is perfect for him (assuming he performs which he did look ordinary yesterday) and it means the younger guys get full games be it in AFL or VFL.

It’s hard to see Neale playing unless one of Hawkins, Cameron or even Blitz are not playing or they decide they want to extra tall over Dempsey or Mannagh.

Next week v the Dons will shed more light on the R1 team.

Mannagh looked ready to go in that practice game. COS 100% ready to go. Clark won some of the better possessions in the midfield - although disposal is a WIP.

All should play first round. Give them a taste. With the vets to support, they will develop quickly.

There's only so many hype trains I can be on at once. Neale and Dempsey have depleted my stocks of hype coal.
I didn’t see what I hoped to yesterday but the way they’ve spoken about him over summer suggests to me he’s very highly rated and if he doesn’t play round 1 it won’t be long afterwards.

You’re probably right though, Kolo will play.

It's a good looking team, plenty of tricks and pizazz by having both Dempsey and Mannagh in.

I don't mind Miers and someone like Close or Dempsey splitting wing duties at all. It seems all will play high up the ground anyway and we need that.

If Blicavs can keep his inside stoppage minutes up the need for Clark probably subsides, especially if Bowes can keep doing his thing there.

Whoever gels best in the Essendon game from these couple of fringe players could easily get the nod, just based on that game.

I'd hope Geelong would look outside the square to play all of Stanley Neale Cameron and Blitz in the same side, now I see Neale as the eventual Hawkins replacement and can see him getting a game or two in that position this season but for now I'd like a look at him taking the second ruck to Stanley both could at times rest forward as well as on the pine. The bonus here other than getting important games into Neale is we then play Cameron and Blitz as utilities all over the ground (****ing nightmare) for oppositions and game changer in my opinion.

Maybe Neale for Dempsey but it’s splitting hairs.
Just think they may have a look at Hawkins, Neale & Cameron together early doors. Hawkins and Neale deep and Cameron as a high CHF working back towards goal. Saw a lot of that in the match sim.

I know for a lot of the old campaigners the match sim is about blowing off the cobwebs, but Tuohy looked so reactionary and a yard off the pace. Of all the old heads, he looked the most vulnerable to losing his spot in the team. He deserves to stay in team, but there are number of kittens breathing down his neck.

Note that this is not my best 23, it's just the team I think will run out for round 1. I personally think some guys in this side should be playing VFL, but I can't recall the last time the club made tough calls like that.

My updated side after the first practice match below. Only personnel change is Cuthrie out (injured) for Dempsey. Wouldn't be surprised to see Neale, Mannagh, Clark or Conway force their way in. In particular Conway as he was given first crack at the ruck yesterday. Looks like Duncan is locked in at HBF this year, and I really like Bowes on-ball.
