If Murphy isn't playing any practice matches, will he have enough match fitness to play round zero? This might just be where we offer Sofri a one year deal.

Or we back in Charlie Dean and Frampton to play, load up at the MSD.
Sof doesn’t play as a key defender so I can’t imagine that he’d come in to consideration just because of Murphy.

Seems he hasnt felt he has been right mentally to play in a game, and hasnt played any form of match sim or game since the GF
And he hasn't considered retirement, I find that extremely hard to believe. Surly his teammates, friends and family have suggested he considers it.

Hi fellas, really disappointing DeMattia injured, he was one I was hoping we’d trade up for in draft night but looks a great fit for the Pies. How did he look against men for anyone that was able to get down to training before he was injured?
He looked good, was pressing for a early debut. It is a shame, but hopefully can get some games late in the year.

Thanks Jen - do you know roughly how long they train for on Fridays? Or does it vary week to week?
Usually about the same. 2hrs. Sometimes a little more.
Ends around 11 or 11:30. Sometimes 12. Depends how big the session is.

It's all media training. Of course he would have considered retirement. Any player with his history would have had the thought cross their mind. Just look at Paddy McCartin. I have a mate who went to East Sandy's (cricket) event on Saturday. Says Murph himself mentioned he knows he's close to retirement and another one essentially forces him out.

It would be a remarkable story to go from almost giving up footy, playing VAFA to the AFL. To me he looked very raw - still learning where to position himself, as you'd expect. I couldn't really see him playing this year tbh. But we could pick him up as a long term prospect given our lack of KPD depth. I think we definitely take either him or Fresh (Eyre).

Sof is a chance. Lots to work with mate. The Murphy situation is a concern

I imagine if someone was going to take away your livelihood, you would do anything possible to try and retain what you have. Up until now, I think Murphy was happy to take the medical advice and try to play on but this recent setback, tells me Murphy might be starting to have his own doubts. For me, this latest setback is a sign that it's time to move on or at least consider it

If he is starting to second guess his attack on the ball, it takes away his fearlessness, which is one of his great strengths.
For his own good he should strongly consider retiring.
Maybe he could go on the LTI list and see how he progresses.

I want this bloke to play on because he's a gun defender but the thought of potential dementia at a much younger age than normal is frightening

Unlikely heard they committed to the dogs player and our VFL captain
I can’t imagine that they’d be making any commitment to Hustwaite, he’s been pretty mediocre in terms of performance this preseason.

He might indirectly. If Murphy doesn't play, Howe probably goes back to slotting beside Moore on the last line.

I think it’s more likely they use Frampton or Dean in that role tbh. Robbing Peter to pay Paul by taking Howe away from the intercept role he excels at when we have other viable options to play the key defence role.

That deep role is more important - they'll play the best at it in the role. Last year, Jezza was on the last line in R1. Then he broke his arm and then Murphy excelled in the role and kept him out of the spot. Dean or Frampton would have to go past Howe to get the gig - possible but doesn't seem that likely to me.

My thoughts as well. Always be a premiership player Murph, legend, and all the best in what he decides to do.

My R0 side based on last night. It modifies the Grand Final team. Murphy might replace Frampton but I'd set the sub as a defender if he is playing. Before McCreery plays midfield, he needs to accumulate more. Some positioning changes might take place, maybe Markov is sub to allow Sullivan to start given how dominant he is. Dean could compete for Frampton's spot. Obviously it makes the assumption Sullivan is signed.

B: Frampton, Moore, Howe

HB: Maynard, Quaynor, Markov

C: Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Mitchell

HF: Hill, Mihocek, Elliott

F: McCreery, De Goey, Daicos

R: Cox, Daicos, Crisp

INT: Lipinski, Cameron, Schultz, Macrae

Sub: Sullivan

IN: Schultz (club debut), Sullivan (debut), Macrae, Lipinski

OUT: Ginnivan, Hoskin-Elliott (ommitted), Murphy (injured).
