2025 AFL Coach Of The Year!

Matthew Nicks if Adelaide finish top 2 (still if in the top 4) or possibly Adam Kingsley if the Giants storm home and win all their remaining games and play like they did against Sydney last night.

Saying that, it would be a big effort if Freo or Gold Coast won all their remaining games as well, which would put JL and Dimma in the mix too and both of them in the top 4 !

Proof?

Scott has recruited a couple of players who have had recent All Australian seasons at their previous club to my memory: Dangerfield and Cameron. He's also had pretty no access to top 10 picks in the draft and his teams have missed finals twice.
Everyone knows what goes on at Geelong.

Had pick 8 in 2022.

Isn't in the top 5 coaches this year.

Nicks, Longmuir, Yze, Hardwick, Kingsley, Macrae all in front of him

Doesn't bother me if he's ranked 18th. I thought I'd correct your moronic, bitter description - that's all.

Wasnt moronic or bitter.
We all know it happens.
Did you correct yourself about no top 10 picks? Especially when you were handed one for free WITH a player from the AFL's pet?

How do they even choose this? Chris Scott in 2022 led the oldest side ever to 16 straight wins, two games clear top of the ladder, 144%, won the Grand Final by 81 points but still couldn't pick up his first award.

It's stupid award because we have no idea what is happening behind closed doors.

The team that has improves the most gets bonus points because it's assumed that the coach has a weaker list. It never considers that the coach underachieved the previous year.

Chris Scott?
The guy that has extra salary cap every year and consistently recruits stars?

Nah
Jon Ralph Aug 11 2025 -

"Geelong could easily afford Marshall’s contract but only because they have been so prudent with their own salary cap management, which Chris Scott labels as one of their underrated strengths…."

Wreck it Ralph 1-0 DangerSloane

"(Geelong) Are adamant that there is no smoking gun here, that nothing untoward was going on at the Geelong Football Club in terms of any attempt to hide 3rd party payments".

"The AFL accepts this"

"But we're not saying that there was any cheating, there was any attempt to cheat the salary cap" - Caroline Wilson

Caroline Wilson 1-0 DangerSloane

The problem DS with speaking out your arse is it is easy to refute.
Maybe some more facts and less 'feelpinions'.

Always seems to go to a coach that has a team exceed preseason expectations and play finals, particularly if from top 4.
So it will be Nicks this year. He's a deserving candidate. CS is penalised for us essentially performing to expectation.

Murray Davis.

We all know Nicksy is not running the Crows. Even Fagan said during our preseason game with Adelaide all their players were using Brisbane terminology out on the field.

You’re welcome Crom.

Yeh its amazing they wont give it to a team that likely finishes in the same position as the previous season.

Such a shock!

Unless we somehow lose to Richmond - which we could, but is unlikely, the coach of the year award will be determined at a point in time when we finish one position higher than we did last year

Factual information?

We're discussing an award that none of us have a stake in determining.

Factual information is 15th to 1st is a lot better than 3rd to 2nd.

Keep crying every season that he doesn't win the award. Maybe one day the people that determine it will see your little posts and feel sorry for you.

What am I crying about, exactly? You just said that we are going to finish lower than last year so why would they give the award to our coach.

I’m not even arguing that he should get it.

At least argue armed with facts when you try and belittle someone else’s club.

You’ve already tried the ‘you must be cheating because I’ve said you must be cheating and that’s my evidence’ angle.

Now you’re going off the ‘you can’t be eligible for this award because going better means going worse’ angle.
Work it out.
I couldn’t give a shit if he doesn’t get the award, it’s not going to win us a title is it.

Then how did Fagan win it last year? He coached a team off a Grand Final loss into 5th place and won the award before he won the flag.

So they give it to coaches who do worse then the year before but not the same?

It’s a joke award, Chris Scott is a two time premiership coach with a win percentage over 70% and has never won it. Says all there is to say about this award’s credibility. Not saying he should win it this year, but at some point in his career he should have won one.

Craig Bellamy has won the NRL equivalent 7 times because they give it to the best coach not just the most improved.

Wow that is astonishing that Scott has never won it, I didn't know that. You're right, it brings the whole award into question.
Who votes for it?
