If we could get a decent deal to split pick 3, you could probably still get two of:
Grlj, Farrow, NHH, Dovaston, Barker, Leray, Taylor, Onley, Fred. Emmett or Poo. Slight chance even to get a Cummings, Greeves or Bison if they slide.
Finding the deal, that’s the trick.
Split both picks.

I'd rather 4+ of the aforementioned players than 2 of the touted top 3-4 in the open draft (CDT, Willem, Sharp, etc)

Work your magic Blair!

Just take best available talent at our selections irrespective of position or type
Desperation for mids is laughable , Sure ideally if there was a top end quality mid is available but if not then dont lower the talent to fill a need,
We will have Smillie , Hotton , McAuliffe , Lalor , Campbell taking up majority time in the midfield in 2 years time
plus trade and free agents after to fill the rest of the spaces left.

Best and highest level talent please
Honestly in a flat draft like this quantity over 'quality' is a far safer bet to unearth some gems.

That all depends on how our talent managers rate the later kids
If their upside is elite quality sure but if they are just B graders then no

Also depends on what trades are available and if its a viable trade
there wont be clubs giving up 2 x 1st rounders in this draft to move up and might be a 5-7 spot slide for a 2nd rounder thrown in

we're really starting to see that we need another handful of picks to bring in a complete midfield mix. cant just say oh we have tarranto and hopper so lets ignore inside mids. we need their replacements, now.
What do you think Lalor and Smillie are? And McAuliffe.

Our midfield needs pace and class.

Quantity over quality are you kidding? If we don’t draft the best available then the likelihood is we’ll end up with list clogging spuds. Teams do not give up 2 top 10 picks for 1, unless there is a likely gun available and if there was a clear gun, we’d want to pick him ourselves. This draft appears to be piss poor and it’s unlikely even with more picks that you’ll find a gem. Best available with a focus on pace.

Lalors not going to be a full time mid. Smilie’s no guarantee and McAuliffe can’t string more than 2 games together without picking up an injury. You’re not wrong that we need pace and class, I’m saying we haven’t ticked off the hopper/tarranto/prestia replacements yet. We’d be silly to think we have.

Agree , we need to bat deep in the midfield
Like 2017, desperately need pace and good decision make, ball users

The game is moving past inside pigs. Certainly for primo picks. Brisbane and Adelaide don't really have one. Collingwood's is Ned Long, Geelong's is Tom Atkins. The game now is about getting the ball to the outside and using it.

It’s actually a pretty interesting draft. Despite how compromised it is, there’s still likely to be some later pick bargains. Names like Thomas Burton, Brodie Atkins or Jack Dalton regularly influential in their Coates and Champs games. The two Taylors at Eastern Ranges with their speed and competitiveness.
Seen a couple of Dalton’s games and he’s everywhere, more impressive given his injuries. Might be viewed as too small, questions on kicking, though his action looks good.
A couple of mid to late picks?…what are you thinking Blair?
Don't forget tom evans

Top line midfielders are obviously difficult to find but I think we’ve got two already in Lalor and Smillie. The term “full time mid” is to loosely used these days. Teams want to rotate a lot of different looks through the middle and having different skill sets is critical.

In my opinion you can find players at a range of different draft picks and work them into a midfielder eg: Tom Mcarthy, Sam Durham,Jai Newcomb, Tom Atkins, George Hewitt, Windhager was pick 47, Soligo pick 36, Max Homes was pick 20, Ed Richards pick 16!… where as a 200+cm ruckman athletic beast who can create at ground level and is showing he can play forward is something you don’t just get out of a rookie draft or trade. You can’t pass also find a rucking work horse eg: Nank, Sweet, Soldo, Cameron in a trade but you’re not just picking up anyone who can move like CDT can out of a trade

A solid display from Willem in helping his Gippsland Power tune up for the finals with a big win over the Pioneers. His kicking was again a bit variable, but his midfield game has really matured over the course of the season which should make recruiters feel much more comfortable drafting him with that mid/fwd role in mind. His movement around stoppage without the ball is much improved, and he’s started to use his natural athletic traits to carry the ball forward out of congestion for damaging possessions. His acceleration for a guy his size is super impressive, and once he gets a head of steam up he seems nearly impossible to stop.

He’s pick 1.

Yep they'll take him and Sharp. Maybe Sharp goes 1 for the safe pick to take the pressure that comes with being #1..

Of course this will **** us and next year we will be looking for help (maybe Miller goes for pick 2) which will in turn **** teams like Essendon and on and on we go.

What a shambles of a league

Kid can play and can read the ball/game
But jesus he is a hack kick

I reckon we will trade our second pick ie pick 3 or whatever it ends up being with GC for 6 & 10 so they can get ahead of bids. Then we will go CDT/Thrillem then Cummin and Grilj (perhaps a Lindsay in the mix).
This will **** GC as they wont have the points to match. Also fair chance WC bid on at least Uwland.
