We got Alger the same way last year. It is just smart business I would have thought ... St Kilda or Essendon may have chosen not to match and we would have been left with these players on our list.

So glad Essendon matched the bid for Kako last year and took Jonty instead.

But with the three players we picked at 54 all fitting the same type - combative, fast forward-mids .... can't see how this ain't a legit move especially seeing as though we jumped in front of Adelaide's pick who then passed after we picked NRT.

Savvy work I say
Adelaide were always passing for Ah Chee

He's equal tallest to those drafted this year. I wouldn't call him vanilla either. He'd be an upgrade on Short, Trezise and Sonsie put it that way.

He's very vanilla. His first instinct with disposal is to go sideways with a 5m handball or short kick. Very rarely takes the game on or gains meterage with his run and carry.

What would you describe as a vanilla player if Kellaway is not?

Nah this shit is ****ed - draft all his team-mates and then don't give him a rookie spot. Ffs he's good enough for a chance against the 10% chance another rookie or SSP amounts to anything.

Wonder if the club will invite him in as a train on player?

In the Tigercast interview, Kellaway mentioned NRT as the player he'd love to bring along to Tigerland. Imagine how he would be feeling saying that and watching NRT get to us and then not be drafted himself...
would be a tough position for the kid, no doubt..
do hope he keeps his head high and goes again.

For those wondering how the list looks after the draft period
Appreciate your hard work RT but Lalor and Hotton are as much midfielders as Cumming and NRT
and Grlj as a general defender after he played 80% of his season in the midfield also seems a stretch
Actually all 4 players we drafted played the majority of their football in the midfield at state level.

but ...
Peace Out Whatever GIF
😊

I reckon a VFL spot, with the opportunity to play a bit of footy with some of those SA team mates, and the chance to earn a spot down the track would soften the blow somewhat.
We still have a rookie spot open so I would be startled if Kellaway wasnt at training next week hunting it down as an SSP selection

Kellaway is so vanilla small and average speed why would you want anyway

Does anyone know if Kellaway has played senior Mens footy?

Faark we gave Paddy Naish a main list spot but won’t even draft Kellaway as a rookie

Well, when you put it like that!?
But it makes me wonder if we may have changed our approach to the Rookie system, in order to improve our performance in that space?

So to say that the system is broken is IMO the wrong take. It's not ideal that a side that finished 2nd last ended up with the 7th best player in the draft on rankings, but the clubs that got in before us to pick up players didn't get them for free, they paid a hefty price to do so
And Gold Coast are many years from having access to any father/sons.

Can players be picked up via the father/son rule as over-agers?

Kellaway's clearly got the smarts. Can give him goals over this year.

I don't believe we get a second crack at Father & Son selection on him...

Kellaway unfortunately has no quality that stands out in his favour. He looks bog average. A work horse foot soldier and those we selected appeared to have pace and more impact. The club should not gift a spot to a kid because his old man played for us. If he has the opportunity to go after a train on possie then he’d have to earn a spot. Good luck to him.

The fact you’re unhappy means we’ve nailed the draft.
I was unhappy when we drafted Smillie instead of Tauru last year. How's that decision going?

I'd get a lot more picks right that Geisch that's for sure and Clarke before him given he managed to butcher 9 out of every 10 of his picks.
