If he was that good then why did Geelong delist him? They have a much better recruiting and development history than ours yet let him go after only a single season where he never threatened a debut.

Let’s not pretend we could have had him as a rookie for nothing.

I have no issue not taking Louis, 17 other clubs passed, obviously recruiters are uncertain how his game stacks up at AFL level.
I’m guessing as the ND unfolded we got 4 mids/smalls that we rated higher than Louis. It the becomes a list balance issue, no room for sentiment.
Re nominating him, I’m not sure why we did that.

I dunno but he’s underdeveloped and I reckon he has a AFL future, a lot more so than some players.
Only complaint I have is nominating him as father-son and then not picking him up.

Not as bad if we gave him notice, but the draft is such a big night for every teen hoping to get drafted. I feel for him, we probably got his hopes up. If he’s worth it, then we’ll pick him up in the SSP

I think this is why I am annoyed.

I found it interesting hearing the bombers list manager talk about Robey after Wednesday night. Clearly seen as a forward. Said he may be able to play midfield down the track.

I know the club was clear about best available with early picks, but viewing him as far more of a forward, in light of our draft haul last year, he doesn’t really make sense for our list. He’s probably a bigger, more forward, less classy version of Lalor. I think he ends up a fine player, but somewhere in the vicinity of a Logan Morris/Josh Caddy style player as opposed to the second coming of Dusty/Bont.

And for a pick 99 if that. Doesn’t make me feel like we have a kid who will be good down the track. Geelong is constantly rotating players through there team and evolving. There always up the top as well. Yet they let go of Patty after 1 season.

Reminds me of Stringer.

Also i believe he came 2nd in their VFL best and fairest from the geelong listed players
The kid had a great 1st year as a rookie in the VFL and completely understandable he didnt get a game on a wing for the cats with players like Dempsey, Holmes , Smith etc. He would have got games at Richmond for sure and if we had him playing in our VFL team putting up them numbers most here would be creaming their pants.

I agree he will definitely be a forward at AFL level and Josh Caddy is someone who I liken him to.

Caddy was a great midfielder at underage level but just couldn’t cut it at 3 different clubs as mainly a midfielder.

Did his best work playing as a second fwd in an undersized Richmond forward line where he was devastating on the scoreboard when presented the chance.

Robey is a better lead up mark than Caddy especially at half forward and up the ground but will impact games in a similar mould as Josh Caddy.

Because they needed list spots I suspect.

Needed to create primary list spots so delisted George Stevens and Keighton Matofai-Forbes with a plan to rookie them.

So then needed the rookie spots and being first year rookie both Retschko and Ivisic were out of contract and were delisted.

nominating a player aint a drafting promise..

Eagles in the same boat ~ nominated Banfield but didn't take him.
Not the same
Banfield was bid on in the 40's and eagles fecked up by not having a list spot by keeping rubbish on their list
Kellaway fell through to the Rookie draft where we do have an open spot.

just a list management tool.
Another Darcy father son at the Dogs.. not sure if they drafted him using the FS lever

I haven't watched a minute of Kellaway but not quite good this year.

Only things that Kellaway needed to improve was his size and hurt factor. Otherwise he’s a good player. Good endurance, consistency, iq, contested ball I liked him. Needed to be in a AFL environment for 3-4 years to develop and he’d be a good player to play his role.

Plans change, and players they thought wouldn’t be available suddenly are, prompting the recruitment team to discuss and pivot.
Yeah true, that’s the practical side of it, but it still sucks for him. Must feel more crushing when you’re a nominated F/S that goes undrafted. It would be ideal if we didn’t do that where possible, but at the same time I understand that plans change

Yes for good reason

He is available to the eagles as a Cat B Rookie now and that suits the eagles perfectly
i get that, but have they said they're going to do that? i feel like a cat b spot on a guy who didn't get drafted at all in this specific draft, and who has come through the afl system, is just gonna be a worse eggy

although i guess it comes down to timing. wce are completely bottomed out whereas we got eggy during our premiership period. so maybe there's some more use in getting walley

Our media team at Tigerland do an excellent job giving us an inside glimpse into how the club works; and draft night showcased their capacity to connect with supporters by giving us “A-Grade” content.

Plus the club’s willingness to embrace Caesar and Michael has to be congratulated, because it gives us access to the club that the average supporter wouldn’t get otherwise.

It’s seems a lifetime ago, when as a young lad I would standout the front of Dimmeys on Swan St, looking at the lastest team photo to confirm who was and wasn’t playing for the Tigers in the upcoming season.

Cats will think they have players who can play similar roles better than Retschko who are still young. Dempsey, Holmes, Bailey S Myth. Blair 4d chested them out of Retschko by making a big offer to super squib Dempsey and forcing the Cats to commit to him long term, leaving no room for Retschko.

I don’t mind the type of player. I think we’ve had better performed players on our own vfl program that we’ve done nothing to get.

What I find is there are people patting the club on the back for valuing a lost spot ignoring that we were reckless with a spot during trade week.

Retschko should be competing for a rookie spot not on the primary list.

What i think you are ignoring is where we had him ranked in last years draft and the data we had on him and the work we put into him.

We were extremely Lucky to have high end picks and selected inside the top 30 in a very strong draft
So the info and data we had on him was high but just didnt have a pick or a spot to take him and the cats did.
Just have to think of it as a blessing that the cats decided to cut him due to list spot constraints and we had the opportunity to get a player we wanted last year with the added benefit of the kid training alongside Holmes, Smith , Dempsey etc
where he had 12 months of 1st hand vision on what it takes to be the best and what that looks like.
But 1 of the most important aspects of getting this kid is he fits a need we are very shallow and on a 12 month contract
