People are underselling Sharp. His athletic profile had him slide down but he has better agility then most give him credit for. I was really hoping for Sharp at #4 as I just think he's an incredibly safe bet to be a long term player.

The problem we have is that we are no chance of beating the likes of Brisbane and GC with their academy guns each year and the handouts the likes of Geesook get via rule changes with a bunch of good players like Sharp. We need stars and Grlj with his athletic abilities is more chance of being one than Sharp.

That’s true

Won’t be wasting a handful of seasons until he has the fitness base required to play at AFL level
Can throw him in this year (hopefully early) on a flank or forward pocket to help fast track him

I wonder if we felt that there wasn't too much genuine elite skills available and so went about finishing the squad out. Speed, toughness and leadership.

Interesting to me is that we targeted speed (makes sense), but especially toughness and leadership. looks like we want to be a hard edged team that will go hard, and then harder.

Absolutely right. Sharp is a very safe selection but even if he reaches his absolute ceiling he will never be an upper echelon mid in this era of football.

The game has been trending away from these types. Sharp was born 10-15 years too late. He would've been a superstar in the early to mid 2000's with the sky high stoppage and clearance numbers.

We've picked players with more bust potential. But we had to.

I think his lack of athleticism was overblown. But he’s never going to be a Dangerfield, explode from the contest type.

It was more his ability to be effective on the outside that was the issue, I don't really remember anyone saying he didn't have a tank

Lack of athleticism was the general knock, repeated adnauseam. Admittedly, more to do with burst pace than endurance/tank.

And they will have the same problems that they had before and GWS
Clubs will come for their players and they cant give them all games or $$$ the other clubs will be throwing at them.

GC is the team we should be targeting next year and for the next 5 years
There will be very good players that cant get games that will slip through the gaps

I think you’re half right , he is a bit overrated in sense that he alone would never be capable of being that difference maker like dusty that bring glory , that said he’s top qty and in a qty midfieid pack could add enough that momentum could swing his teams way ,,,,, could ,,,, tho he hasn’t done that for PA

That could be said for Ashcroft though, he has two Norms

Entire draft, AFL stitched us with Allan compo and we get 7th best kid.

Don't know why we have a recruiting team really, we should just pick each draftee based on their "fox footy lab" ranking!

I’m happy with our draft class. We’ve started filling the role players slots with speed, to off set our previous draft classes.

But our recent first round picks are hauntingly bad(last year looked an improvement) even grabbing a herald sun we would have gone better.

Compromised draft is my gripe, utter bullshit. The whole thing including compensation picks. The fact our very best player picked ended up at 7 when we finished 2nd last with only 5 wins is a disgrace.

There is a reason why Rhy Gieshen came out after day 1 and said what he did. He knows we got the short end of the stick.
