My only issue is that we already have a stacked backline. He probably will be a perfect replacement for Vlastuin/Broad but then what happens to Brown, Trainor, Gray, Gibcus, Banks etc.

If they have a plan that sees all or most of those players in our best 23, I won’t have a major issue. But we need midfielders more than anything else.

Rhy said we drafted inside mids (plural) last year and our lack of interest in sharp probably says a bit about how we view our list make up.

I don't doubt he is a gun defender. I know we are picking best available but I still don't believe it's wise to add yet another defender to our already plentiful stocks back there.
If we had a pick at the between 9 and 15 I'd be open to pulling the trigger on him but at pick 3 and 4 I just can't get on board.
I'm sure that in the next couple of years there will be another player with similar traits that we can select or even trade for.
If we are picking him because he could potentially end up as a midfielder then just pick a midfielder...

Will be a bit clunky for a couple of years but once Floss & Broad go something like this would work;

Balta, Miller as the talls
Gibcus, Taylor, Trainor as the medium/interceptors.
Brown & Banks as the rebounders

Relies on Brown becoming more hungry/demanding for the footy though.

Including the academy boys, there are probably 8 or 9 players that are in the mix for that pick. It is getting a little clearer on West Coast might do now.

So 4 or 5 players in the mix for pick 3 or 4 taking out the academy players and the players they expect West Coast to take.

If X is taken with our pick it’s because the midfield group this year are not that highly rated. The club would be choosing what they believe to be a gun defender over an average mid.
