Including the academy boys, there are probably 8 or 9 players that are in the mix for that pick. It is getting a little clearer on West Coast might do now.

So 4 or 5 players in the mix for pick 3 or 4 taking out the academy players and the players they expect West Coast to take.

I don’t believe from what he said he’s ruling out Duursma or CDT. He said it’s getting a little clearer who west coast might take so they can start honing in on who of that 8-9 (including academy kids) they will take.

Take Taylor and best available Mid. Just because we are strong in defense this year, thats not the case when Vlas and Broad retire... and that is also pending Vlas comes back at full strength after his injury... That was a horrible injury to end the season at his age.

Barring injury, Mcaulliff and Smillie back in the midfield mix this year., Hotton and Lalor rotate through the mid as well.

Midfielder with our top 4 pick next year, happy days.

Blair and Rh have repeatedly said we are drafting for our next run at a flag. Not next two years.

Broad and Vlas who have been culture changers and leaders leave in that time frame. Not addressing that when there is a top 5 talent in that position isn’t smart. Just saying.

I watched Rhy's interview on Gettable and here are my objective views on it.
Robey - he was very matter of fact, not much emotive language. Didn't really give much away.

Xavier Taylor - pretty much the opposite to how he responded to Robey. Emotive language, the recounting of a phrase said to him by XT

Cumming - this was tougher to interpret. The joking about Blair's food preferences throughout made it difficult to get a read. Rhy came across as slightly more guarded when speaking about the Cumming meeting. Claimed it was routine (props to Rusty Beam who broke it first). Quick subjective point - I don't think it was routine in the way he was alluding to, I think it's routine in the way where we visit players we are likely going to pick to let them know accordingly but still not saying it's 100%. Similar to Lalor last year, but as we had pick 1 last year, we were able to tell him he was being taken.

If I was putting my own hard earned on who we pick it would be;
3 - Xavier Taylor
4 - Sam Cumming

FWIW - I still can't shake this gut feeling about Sharp. I feel like if we go with Cumming, it makes a whole lot of sense to pair him with Sharp. Go home factor is real and anything you can do as a club to temper that feeling early is going to be beneficial later on.

I always take alleged inside info with a grain of salt (as should everyone btw) but there's been a consistency with the info this year. It's predominantly all been linked to the SA boys in Sharp and Cumming. Pair that with Jevan Phillipou saying we have spoken to him the most out of any other clubs who is also based in SA.

Very tough to call this year.

I think the players in our mix is Robey, Cummings, XT, Sharp and Farrow. Grilj not anymore and CDT would be top of that list but expectation is he’s now gone.

I think the rankings are XT, Robey then Cumming but I don’t know for sure.

Heard the same as our top 3, Taylor is a lock though

I’ve been strongest on Sharp for a number of reasons which a select few know. I now have my doubts he’s in our sights. I think he’s one of the five Giech spoke about but there’s been a slight shift.

I also think that Cumming interview whilst being a family one they haven’t been able to do as he boards, there may have been something more. It wouldn’t have been a promise to select though as there is a lot to play out still.

I don't doubt he is a gun defender. I know we are picking best available but I still don't believe it's wise to add yet another defender to our already plentiful stocks back there.
If we had a pick at the between 9 and 15 I'd be open to pulling the trigger on him but at pick 3 and 4 I just can't get on board.
I'm sure that in the next couple of years there will be another player with similar traits that we can select or even trade for.
If we are picking him because he could potentially end up as a midfielder then just pick a midfielder...

My only issue is that we already have a stacked backline. He probably will be a perfect replacement for Vlastuin/Broad but then what happens to Brown, Trainor, Gray, Gibcus, Banks etc.

If they have a plan that sees all or most of those players in our best 23, I won’t have a major issue. But we need midfielders more than anything else.

I think best to look at it this way, if Taylor turned out to be a vlaustin type while Sharpe ended up like Jack Steele, which would you prefer?
