For anyone interested, I went back over the accuracy of the top picks in these mocks from Cal.

2020:
1st pick only correct

2021:
first 9 of 9 correct

2022:
first 11 / 11 correct

2023:
first 7 / 7 correct

2024:
first 10/10 correct

last 4 years he has knocked it out of the park and it is going to take an out of the blue year for him to not be on the money, especially when talking about the top 5 picks.

Not to say it can't happen of course!

But recent history suggests its more likely that he is correct.

what is also interesting is the sharp turn of events from 2020 - 2021. I'm not sure if his status in the AFL circle rose dramatically in that time and was maybe granted a bit more info / access than previous?
As has been mentioned it’s a weird year though with so many father sons and academy picks then 4 clubs owning the first 8 live selections.

I’d be staggered if he nailed 10/10 this year

we only need him to nail 6 or 7 ;) :p :tearsofjoy:

definitely going to be a trickier year than most.

even if he doesn't nail the bids, I don't think that matters so much as they can be tricky to place despite knowing they are coming early.

if we look specifically at the open draft players, he only needs to nail the first 4 to deliver what he put out tonight.

F: Alger Armstrong Lalor
HF: Robey Faull Kickett
C: Retschko Smillie Campbell
HB: Trainor Gibcus Banks
B: Brown Balta Gray
Foll: Sims Cumming Hotton
Int: Smith Kellaway McAuliffe MRJ
It's not bad but where is Vlas and Broad. They'll be there. Next year.

Have been set on Cumming since the champs. Very happy if we end up with him. He has the agility and fast feet out of stoppage we need. He can dodge tackles and create something out of nothing. Very few on our list have those traits and the few that do don't have the class to match.

Out of the rumoured 4 - Cumming, Roby, Grlj, Taylor. He's my number #1.

Roby next. But he has some risk with the lack of exposure and the concerning sprint time. I caught up with his games and he has smarts, decent burst (not amazing ) and goal kicking that is valuable. His upward running style and gait kind of reminds me of Harvey Langford without the elite kicking. But he's an easily selection over the Sharp and Greeves types. You don't take one paced inside mids this high in the modern game.

I will say this, at some point Richmond has to take the risk on the electric outside player with class like a Grlj type even if they lack the accumulation and inside game. And hope they develop it. Max Holmes had no contested game as a junior. If they take one of those two hopefully it's the right one. I have Roby slightly ahead as he has more tools in his game and overall probably more talent.

Xavier Taylor last. I hope he goes to Essendon. You need to seriously special as a mid sized defender to be worth a top 5 pick. The positional and list value just ain't there.

So in summary, Cumming at all costs and then let's see. If the Essendon trade up deal is there I'm taking Cumming and that trade to have 3 1sts instead of 2 and then happily taking whatever is left over.

While its looking food with Robey & Cumming which is what i was wanting/hoping to get
I genuinely believe cal is having a foot in each door by selecting Cumming first then Robey

#7 - Cumming
#8 - Robey
#9 - Taylor

I still think its very possible we take Taylor and Roby gets to the Bombers and thats why he has them where he has so if that eventuates, he doesn't look far off the mark
I agree. I think cal put Robey at 4. So that if We pass he's only one spot out if he goes to the bombers.

He only has to miss on one of our picks and the top ten will be a total miss.

You only need him to nail the 4 non aligned picks if you want Robey and Cumming

Fixed for you

We are in the business of winning flags not scraping into the 8. Lalor, Hotton, Robey and Cumming has the potential to be one of the most damaging midfields in the game.

Pick just cumming & Taylor or Robey and Taylor and pick up Arki butler next year and it’s even more insane.

I'm not letting you campaigners gaslight me into thinking the Cumming visit was any less than essentially telling him if he is still there at our picks we will select him.
Any other reason would have been done in the handful of weeks preceding last week.

Welcome Sam.

The only downside is that Groupie_ has a new player to call Cumdog.

I didn't realise until looking into Cumming that he won the SANFL U18 MVP as an underager in 2024. On watching some video highlights I'm impressed and would be very happy with Cumming/Robey combo.

On player comparisons I see Cumming as a JHF type - explosive, good overhead, tough, gets clearances at speed and can kick goals - but Cumming appears to have great leadership traits and character as well.

I did want Robey/Sharp, but it hasn't taken me long to now hope it's Robey/Cumming as is rumoured.

Great post Barnzy

I want the Robey / Cumming combo but would happily give up Robey if it means we get the extra asset in the top 10 of the draft and would happily settle for a Taylor , Cumming , Grlj trifecta or Farrow which i mentioned here about 2 months ago when he was not on anybody's radar or a Dovaston
