I’ll back Taylor and the club in if we go for him but I just don’t see how our need for quality mids and lack of need in defence justifies taking someone so high. At the end of the day though the club knows better than me and have planned years ahead, they could think 2 top end mids this draft and another next year is too many with Lalor, Hotton, Smillie, McCauliffe already in the mix with Taranto and Hopper.
The other option is we could be looking for him to be our Jake Lever type once Broad and Vlastuin go, or that we’re turning him into a half back/winger or even mid.
For the other pick very very torn. Cumming has the better exposed form, Robey a bolter and I’m not sold on him not just being stronger than everyone else. Also his ability to constantly get smothered in the u18s concerns me as he will have infinitely less time in the AFL to dispose of it well.
If we take two mids I’d take them both (Cumming first and Robey second to try tempt Bombers to trade), with Sharp an outside chance as whilst his upside is probably a 200 game inside ball winner, his downside is Matt Thomas.
