They’re not really compromised. The GC/Brisbane players would never have been on the books without the academy. It’s not the best draft in theory but still some highly rated players left on the board in the second round. Could be a case of guns spread across the board.
can't complain when thy let Harley Barker go to Geelong

I wish I shared your belief. I’ve seen Smilllie plod around a 2s game and that’s about it so far. I really hope I’m wrong as we need him to work.

Had a mate message me after we selected Smils saying we would regret that one. I’m hopeful but not everyone was sold on him at the time.

Overreaction of the century
How the **** am I over reacting? Ive said, dont know either kid or had no preference. Overreaction is the plethora of supporters here bitching & already labelling him the next whipping boy. All ive said is, hope the revruiters got it right as, clearly, a lot of supporters were already upset at it & the other bloke plays a similar role & is a massive Tigers fan who models himself on literally Vlaustin, who he could have learned off for 3 years.

Is Grlj a running hb or a stopper? I personally am never a fan of drafting any type of flanker , especially a role where you tend to get cheap kicks. Even Eggs was able to play HB & get 3 brownlow votes. Does this guy have elite "stopper" potential?

I just think it's funny what North have up last year to grab Whitlock and we gave up the likely first pick of the second round. Given the Egirls picks got eaten up, North got their prized first pick of the second round, all the way at Pick 26 with our trade for Young which was Pick 38 coming all the way in to Pick 31.

Roos turned something into nothing and we've turned nothing into something.

Very hard for him to match others expectations.

I would have picked Harley Barker before him personally and I do not see what the role is honestly?

We have the 6th pick of night 2. Could become the 4th live pick if bids are matched on Ison and Williams.

You'd suspect that North will go for a tall with Pick 26, it would be gross mismanagement if they don't (so probably won't)

I know why some people are a fan of academies for the northern clubs, but I just find it strange calling it an open draft and having all these players attached to it.

We have:
  • Northern Academies
  • NGA
  • Father-sons

Gold Coast and Brisbane for example don't need to think much about the draft anymore because they have their own talent pathway outside of the draft. Some teams had great results from NGA, others did not. Some clubs like Brisbane and Bulldogs had great success in the father-son rule. Geelong basically built a premiership side off of that rule in the late 2000s.

Other clubs like us get nothing. We have no academies, our NGA has produced dust so far, and our father-sons are busts more than they're gold nowadays. How easy would this rebuild have been if we were able to select all our first-rounders in 2017-2022 by matching bids placed by bottom 4 teams?

The draft needs to be revamped IMO

Don’t think it matters too much. In theory, the bulk of our rebuild was already completed last year with the spread of picks that we had.
That's because of our astute trading though, not because the leagues rules were in our favour.

I think we need a more balanced system
