I'll admit I wanted robey. After watching the highlights of the 2 we picked up, they just look way more dynamic and agile. Robey reminds me a bit of josh caddy now
I was happy for us to take someone else other than Robey, not sure why but just saw some risk there and feel we have a few players with that forward/mid match winner potential in Lalor, Hotton, Smillie on the list.

I'm wrapped with Cumming, I think he's a beautiful all round mid that we can lock in for a long time and a safe bet.
I potentially would have preferred Taylor over Grlj as I think that would have balanced our draft better, but I do acknowledge that Grlj fits our needs really well in terms of speed and run.

Think both Grlj and Cumming we play afl early.

Makes it interesting for a few of our players who have coasted along getting games, might finally be some real competition. Talking about the likes of Mansell, Ross, HRS, Sonsie. Could be awkward having the no. 5 and 7 running around in the vfl
I wouldn't say Mansell has coasted and been gifted games on his talent, quite the opposite. He's works bloody hard and gives his all, there just the question on his talent. More than happy to see him play VFL if there are better options.
The others you have listed I pretty much agree with the assessment though, most of them have more talent, but just seem to lack something to make at AFl level.

Pretty sure Sidebottom is anothsr Robey type. 11 Goals in the TAC granny I am pretty sure.
Not sure back-to-bolsters for the Bombers is wise. Reeks a bit of being seen to have made a splash to appease the member base, which Essendon partial to doing - a bit like us through the late 80s and 90s
And early 2000s. While you are accountable to the membership, you dont necessarily go out of the way to appease them.
Drafting Sharp was them correcting themselves. The Dons at this point need high-class solid reliable foot soldiers, not high risk gambles.
Which is why I and others likely were high on XT. Nothing wrong with someone who could well
End up being one of the very best in his role and the next Nick V.

Agree.
Now let's wait for next year when our FS players get bid on and we can't match because of the changed points system.

Our father sons won't be top 5 picks FFS, that's my point. These top kids should not be pushing clubs right at the bottom of the ladder back further who desperately need talent down the pecking order, the fact that clubs can do it is an absolute rort. Academies are no different.

Free agency compo the same, if you have a player leave then bad luck, you just have freed up some salary cap space. Top teams shouldn't be allowed to poach players as unrestricted free agents, it should always be restricted giving the losing team an option to match and force a trade.

Still going to need the points for later picks and if they end up being 3rd or 4th round picks, then who really gives a **** as they aren't top talent.

Still missing my point, later picks I don't give a shit I'm talking about the top end of the draft for struggling teams. It's bullshit

Was a wise move in the end. 😍
Still spewing we didn't pick him, I understand the way we went but I'd be lying if I said I'm fine with it all.
Annoys me that Essendon got exactly what they wanted 🤣

Did laugh at West Coast giving away a F2 for absolutely nothing. Might explain why they are a shit side atm, club is struggling big time.

The board laughed when i said Robey wasn't a good fit. The game is leaving the big lumbering types like Cripps and Bont. Even Rowell has speed out of the contest and sheer running power. Game moves too quick now. I like the picks in Cumming and the Sizzler. They will compliment Lalor/Hotton nicely.

Not missing your point, your missing mine. System is getting tightened up next year and if one of our boys get bid on in the later part of the first round it will be tough for us to match, particularly if they are both in that range we probably won't get both.
So after we get shafted by a shit system this year, ee then get shafted by an improved one next year.

Annoying now they got what they wanted, might not be annoying down the track when he ends up a bust, hopefully.

Yep.
Cumdog & Grijl are a better fit with Lalor, Smillie, Kmac & Hotton than Robey imo.

I loved XT but he came across as a massive flog. I wonder if that put us off.

Haha didn't he. Can't judge a book by it's cover but something seemed a bit rockstar about him. We prefer the strong silent Gary Cooper types at Punt Road.

The thing I wish the AFL would allow is for clubs to create their academies off their own backs. Not just from a "we are a massive club and could clean up" POV but there needs to be some grass roots build up of the game to get kids invested.

The other reason I want it is because the AFL has all but forgotten country Australia and there needs to be some effort thrown back so AFL can have a future. Hell, I would say **** off Gather Round and have Country Round. Take the few million hit in revenue and have the clubs go to large country hubs and play. Hell, I would go off to Wangaratta or something for the weekend if Richmond played there on Country Round.

I get the need for academies but Gold coast picked up what 4 top 20 picks? That's just crap, league is compromised enough and the AFL talk about equalisation. It's a joke, hell we even had a team tell the AFL they arent travelling in the opening round next year and allowed it LOL
