Greeves and NHH not being drafted shows the lack of two way footballers these days with the softish element aren’t going places. Too often in the past we’ve gone those safer picks and they become plodders.

Interesting draft. Not sure how Giesch says we’re going best available but drafts unknowns then the trade up for GC pick for a couple academy bids and for a bloke that probably wouldn’t have got picked up seems a bit unusual.

Our draft last year was beasts and height with this year we’ve decided 178-184. Forget complimenting one another in one draft just do it over two years .

In saying all that I’m excited with this years draft. The experts called it very even post the first 15 maybe 20 picks and that’s evident by a lot of bolters.

Anyway, we go from having no speed literally to now 5 elite speed and agility with including Retschko. Not often a year of drafting and trading equates to a very similar type of player. Bring on the new game plan of run and carry i say!

Certainly added speed.im pretty sure every player we drafted and Retschko have all run sub 3sec/20m times.

I think we are only going to rookie Kellaway, and we are done. If they have a Cat B rookie somewhere hidden away, they will also unveil him tomorrow, but I doubt that.

Will we though? 2nd pick in the rookie draft is a good opportunity to take a risk albeit that risk could be Kellaway. I’d go NHH or Greeves, and just give him a chance.

There's a common theme with all our draftees, summed up by Rhy Gieschen on Cumming, Grjl, Peucker, and Noah Roberts-Thomson, which I like. All possess speed, power, are tough competitors and have a terrific work ethic.

Nah he was way over hyped on here. He was borderline 1st round at best and even that’s a stretch.

Twomey didn’t have him in his top 25 rankings in July. Greeves was 11 in front of Grlj and Cumming at 12 and 13 and NHH was at 18

The Gieschen pre-draft interview on Gettable was telling. The journo's and BF nuffies like us rate players on disposals, goals and then 'rumours'.

Gieschen made mention that GPS data was an important part of the analysis - this is something we don't see. I believe this is why Grlj went so high...his would've been off the charts. And his running at high speed and repeat sprints was probably also off the charts, not just the fact he ran 14kms.... This shows an intent to run defensively, run to link up, run to tackle, get to multiple contests and so on....then couple that with his elite speed, hardness, good ball use etc...and you've got a perfect prototype for a modern player.

Then we know character and leadership plays a huge role, and he's got that in spades as well.

So who knows what Robey's GPS data showed? Greeves GPS data was probably horrendous. Same as others who looked good on basic stats who were overlooked.

All list mgt teams would know what factors go into making very good players beyond the basics, and then formulate their rankings accordingly. Of course there'd be outliers who buck the trend, but there are very good and logical reasons based on actual data that meant Greeves, Fred, NHH etc...went undrafted.

And just because we didn't pick Robey or Sharp or Taylor, it doesn't mean we didn't rate them...it just means we rated Cumming and Grlj higher.

We will get Kellaway, if we were to pick those you mentioned it would have been in the draft. We didnt want them.

Also don't think it's just a co-incidence that we have drafted a heap of SA kids.

LOL at the eagles bidding on teams NGA players and expecting theirs to get to the Rookie draft
only to run out of list spots and lose them to other clubs. And throw away the 2nd rounder they got for flyin Ryan on a 1 spot upgrade to feck it up and not end up with the player they bid on.
