Just on retchko we wanted him but so did Hawthorn and swans and we knew if it got to the delisted free agent period he was of elsewhere

Doing the trade got him to tigerland for cheap without the fight

Wonder if we were never going to take Louis, even with 20 picks, but we nominated him to try and trick another club to bid on him in the "free" range, so he gets on a list.
Or to fool clubs away from our intended target in NRT.

If he was that good then why did Geelong delist him? They have a much better recruiting and development history than ours yet let him go after only a single season where he never threatened a debut.

Let’s not pretend we could have had him as a rookie for nothing.
We got him for pick 99.lol

Our club thought the same as Rosas on Robey.
Saw Cumming and Grjl as future mids.
X Taylor a defender not a future mid.

Will be interesting to see how Grjl progresses. He will at least be a dynamic half back. I think he could be a great wingman but if he has the talent the club thinks he does then he could crack it as an elite mid in time. If the latter we will have absolutely cleaned up. But time will tell if he gets there.
Cumming is more obvious the talent he has and his ability to make it as a mid.
Think Griljs vfl games for us sold the deal.

why did people ignore my question about grlj's poor kicking skills ?
Well its Sunday morning.
Whats so common about Sunday mornings?
Hangovers.
Go lie down for a few more hrs.

I’m surprised more state league or delisted players didn’t get picked TBH.
The quality of players picked after the first round dropped dramatically. Definitely beauty in the eye of the beholder after that and many of these were lucky to be placed on senior lists compared to last year.
I think clubs could fill spots on a needs basis with state league players more than currently happens. Late ND, RD in particular. But seems it’s pretty much MSD.
Last year thought Cooper Keogh, a mature age ruckman from Coburg, looked everybit an AFL prospect. Destroyed our boys and a number of other AFL listed ruckman. Unfortunately got injured prior to the MSD. But there’s plenty of others out there that could fill roles on an AFL list. Surely the best ones are worth a rookie spot.

Really happy with the overall profile of this draft. Cumming, Grlj, Puecker and Roberts-Thompson continue a clear trend from the club of targeting speed, versatility and rotation depth. All four have the athletic profile to play multiple roles and importantly, can take centre bounce stints or wing rotations as they mature.

What this does is fundamentally change the way we can manage territory and transition. For years our midfield group has been a bit dependent on a handful of prime movers. Now we have Taranto, Lalor, Hotton, Campbell, Gray, Cumming, Grlj and MRJ who can all rotate through the middle at stages. That gives us balance through the corridor and should make our exits cleaner and faster. The old saying applies: slow is smooth, smooth is fast. If you can get your first possession clean, you do not need to be rushed. You arrive in waves.

This aligns with Yze’s comments about attacking at full speed and putting genuine pace on the game. It looks like we are building towards a style where we stretch sides laterally, surge forward in numbers, then apply mosquito fleet pressure across the ground. If we can maintain that intensity for four quarters, it becomes difficult for opposition teams to match the tempo.

It is also worth noting that these picks keep our development windows aligned. Most of this group is two to three years away from being fully AFL capable in their primary roles, which fits the broader list strategy. We get them into the furnace now, sharpen their decision making and bodywork through VFL exposure, and by 2027 to 2028 we should have a deep, flexible midfield-forward rotation with genuine leg speed and overlap run.

I am not calling finals next year, but another two years of development under this blueprint should have us pushing strongly in 2028. The talent is there, the profile fits modern football, and the game style we are signalling is one that can trouble sides if it clicks
