I think people seem to think there is a universal ranking list from Ben Waterworth and if you don't pick the next guy up you've gone needs over best available lol. It sounds stupid when I type it out but I'm pretty sure I'm rightPosted this on the SSP thread, but thought worth sharing the thought here.
There’s a common suggestion permeating the board that we went needs over best available. But what if the club is anticipating the way the game will be played over the next decade and determined that elite speed, repeat sprint ability, and endurance is what will separate the elite player of the future from the relic of the past?
Through that lens, it would be hard to argue we didn’t take the best available players (with the disclaimer that good foot skills will likely always be mandatory)!

Yep, that too!I think people seem to think there is a universal ranking list from Ben Waterworth and if you don't pick the next guy up you've gone needs over best available lol. It sounds stupid when I type it out but I'm pretty sure I'm right![]()
Well I’m pretty filthy atm with AFL. Like look I can understand the bif for Harry dean. He’s a father son. But like Gold Coast managed to secure 5 Campaigners? though having a metric **** tonne of pick 30s & 40s
It isn’t on. I’m over this academy bullshit. Fox footy trying to play it off during the draft pissed me off even more. Oh this isn’t normal it’s only this year blah blah blah. What do you mean you stupid campaigner they have been doing this every ****ing year
Better Be! or you are gunna cop some abuse, LOTW stylehopefully today!
It’s taken you this long to know Magic is an idiot? Very slow on the uptake.FMD
The exact player RFC is craving for and you dont want him because he "has not won a premiership"
Then you go onto say "You think Butters is one of the most overrated players in the game "
You sir are an idiot
You are a jonny come lately and i called him an idiot 1 year after joining this board when magic was known as bruce monteathIt’s taken you this long to know Magic is an idiot? Very slow on the uptake.
Good management is anticipating and planning for what comes next.Posted this on the SSP thread, but thought worth sharing the thought here.

AFL needs to grow those big northern markets just lay off them alright
People using Gold Coast as the problem are barking up the wrong tree. They get an academy and try to develop elite players when they'd normally choose other sports - Patterson would 100% be playinh Rugby League if not for the academy.
Nobody gives a rats about the academies for a decade...as GC don't get any elite players from it. Then when they finally do after investing 10+ years, coaching, resources etc..... people get upset and think it's a rort. So we only accept and applaud the academies when they don't achieve what they were set out to do.
Now NGA is different and is BS.....players who have been in the elite junior pathways from birth getting gifted to clubs because a parent was born overseas etc... now that's absolute BS.
But academies that are helping secure guys like Heeney and Patterson who would otherwise be playing Rugby League - that's something to applaud - admittedly the bid matching rules hasn't been done well, but they are fixing that next year and so long as the NGA rules are tightened all should be fine.
Let's not forget GC have played 1 x finals series in 16-years...and in that time have lost to other clubs a gazillion quality players: Prestia, Caddy, Lynch, May, Bennell, Ablett, O'Meara, Martin, Wright, Saad, Ah Chee, Ainsworth, Scrimshaw, Bowes, Lukoscius, Rankine, Flanders, Budarick, Hollands.....and up until the last 2-years, no quality players have wanted to go there either.
And in future years will no doubt lose the likes of Humphrey, King, Lombard or others when the salary cap squeeze is on...
I'm glad they are getting their sh*t together and if we can't win flags, then GC and GWS are top of my list to win them until we are ready, so good luck to them.
7pm tonight it's dropping!Better Be! or you are gunna cop some abuse, LOTW style![]()

I’m not sure, but doesn’t good management require regularly reassessing and adjusting plans based on evolving circumstances? Then why didn’t we take the best sprint, endurance and repeat sprint players last year?
RE: Louis Kellaway and why he was nominated to begin with if we didn't end up selecting him, Rhy and I spoke about it off air and he advised the below which he said I was ok to share
The AFL requirement is for clubs to nominate quite early - before they had gone away and done our rankings. He was in a pool of players to rate / rank so therefore the club thought they best to keep their options open and it didn't limit any other clubs selecting him etc, he was fully aware of this.
I think once you hear Rhy talk about this more in the chat when it comes out tonight that the noise about us adding him was more media driven than anything. It makes sense, the players we picked but geez to spend 3 years with this kid and all the talk early on was always us adding him and then in the last few months do an about face, it's a bitter pill to swallow.
I think we can move on from the Kellaway saga now , Its done and dusted
We feel for the kid but also we invested a bit into him as well and im sure RFC contributed to him becoming the player he has become but unfortunately he didnt have the qualities the AFL clubs were looking for with the way the game is going.
Watching him what i believe his main issue is he is a get ball and give off quick player that really doesnt have much attacking run in his game
