Twomey basically did the same.

His smug grin carrying on about Essendon being so happy we passed on Robey and they got a steal etc.

His whole article the other day was basically a hit piece on Grlj and how he would've slid out. Massive flog
Twomey knows nothing about football ... he is just an expert in gossip

Would have slid past Essendon, a club with zero idea, to Hawthorn, the most successful club of the last 45 years lol

To be fair to Robey, growing 7 inches in 2 years was bound to cause back issues. My twin brother was the same.
One brother grew vertically, the other horizontally 😝

Yeah, but can you imagine the shit the club would be getting by other clubs and our own supporters if we picked Robey and was injured already a week since the draft. having Smil already on the sidelines?

Better to nip it in the bud early IMO>

Tigers fans are lucky, you get to see Grilj tearing it up at training.

If we only had 1 first rounder it would be more dissapointing, but we still got Sharp and Farrow to be excited about.

100%. The Smillie situation is frustrating enough. If we had Robey pulled out of training after week 1 of preseason for 5 weeks, the board would implode.

Rhy mentioned the club rates a lot of factors into their rankings, like an algorithm and medical history and info play a part in that. I dare say that maybe it wasn't the back issue itself that we didn't take him, given we drafted Jonty early with similar back issues. We have drafted a few players with injury concerns history like Lalor, Hotton, Faull, Cumming had a shoulder issue. So gotta be more to it.

Maybe it was a bit of a character issue/dishonesty in that he didn't disclose it in the interviews.

It was just rankings, we saw him as a KPF.

Feel the same about Smillie.
Thank God for the 6 others lads.

God Imagine Lord of the Winge if we drafted Robey...

Sack Blair, Sack Rhy, Drafted another injury proned spud etc etc..... All whist completely ignoring the facet he wanted Robey all along:rolleyes:
Yeah but it wanted Robey, and not taking him is a huge mistake.

Recruiting is not an exact science. You cannot expect that a selection will be better than all those selected after the pick. If that was the case, every player would end up graded as according to their selection number. All we can hope for is that the recruiting department has a good percentage of picks correct. Their is no guarantee that a player like Cumming will end up better than all 50+ plus kids drafted following his selection but if he ends up better than 47+ then we likely have a star player.
I'll accept that for players taken with later picks that come from the clouds (e.g. a Dane Swan type). But if our picks aren't better than those taken within the same range (like what happened to St Kilda with Petracca and Bontempelli), then I'll have my questions and expectations for the club. Especially if this becomes a trend across both of our drafts.

These first-rounders are critical to our rebuild, so we need good returns from what we selected. Messing up can potentially set us back years.
So let those of us that are not experts back all the club's current strategy decisions including extending Yze to 2028. However, the club needs to repay our trust with results. The premiership honeymoon is over, so a successful rebuild is a non-negotiation.

Things are going well so far though I'll have to admit, so I'm good right now. No alarm bells are ringing to me.
But if it turns out our draft strategy failed, then the club should prepare for a large dose of scrutiny and accountability. I don't think the wider AFL community and supporters alike will go soft on them just because of the dynasty, and I wouldn't either tbh.

But it's all roses and peaches right now in my view, so I'm looking forward to what our draftees can deliver over the next 5 or so years

That's North for you trying to paint it as a positive no matter how they paint it they got there pants pulled down there living in fairy🧚‍♀️ land. I'm I missing something Whitlock the next Rance or something.
It’s funny .. they’ll compare Whitlock to Grlj … but at that pick they could’ve taken Grlj, Robey, Sharp, Taylor … the list goes on.

Right now it remains a poor trade. If Whitlock is a star then it will be looked upon favourably. If he’s only good or worse it’s a shocker.

From U18 performances and projections, Grlj/Taylor/Sharp/Robey are likely to be superior players to Whitlock and/or Dovaston.

If they didn’t trade for Daniel they could’ve had Whitlock, Dovaston and Grlj/Sharp/Taylor/Robey…. but hey … 29yo midget half backs who can’t defend are pretty handy ….

A club you have said needs small forwards and key position players gives up pick 8 in a weak draft to get 1.6 of those, and now you say it is a poor trade by them.

As for the bolded part, why does that only apply to North? Couldn't Richmond have also taken a range of promising players with the two picks they gave up?

It already is a massive blunder from them
They should have drafted Shannahan with that selection instead of Whitlock
