if you look at historical draft performances, the amount of kids getting drafted out of Queensland has decreased since the advent of the academies, not increased.

Can't be bothered checking to verify this, but regardless this statement doesn't take in to consideration quality.

Overall draftable talent is one measure but if QLD is producing more first round talent that would also be a win for QLD clubs and the academies.

should naturally occur due to the almost 100% growth in footy numbers up here.

However there was some pretty good top end quality pre academy or who had almost no academy involvement in the likes of Reiwolt, Beams, Merrett, Gilbert, Zorko, Cameron, Andrews, Dixon, Thompson, Hickey, Thomas, Whitecross, Harbrow, White, Armitage, Tippett, Miller, Charman, Keating, Hahn, Hudghton and then further back to Voss, Aker etc

Annable will be the first genuine first rounder that has come out of Lions Academy and they have had all the responsibility for his development.

Not like there haven't been some absolute stars that came before academies though.
