From discussions on the Lions board, these are the boys from our academy to watch for this draft.

Daniel Annabel MID (Vic Point) L3
Oscar Barry KPP (Coorparoo) L2
Jack Slater MID (Sherwood) L2
Raphael Geesu SF (Vic Point) L2
Jack Harrison MID (Sherwood) L2

As noted, Dan Annabel is in our level 3 squad.

I know they’ve had similar discussions and updates on the Gold board.

Jai Murray and Beau Addinsall were named in GC’s level three squad as 16 year olds this year.
Have you seen Barry or Annabel play lately ? I watched Annabel play a few weeks ago in the Ressies at Victoria Point had a pretty good game found a fair bit of the footy playing on the wing and rotation through the guts - kid has a fair bit of talent - watched Barry play as well on ANZAC day in the Ressies for Coorparoo- played him in the ruck and won 95% of the hit outs with a rotation on the ball did well believe he got in the top 5 best on - he really gets up there don’t believe that’s his position but the kid has serious hops

Only time I get to see any academy kids is if they're in an academy team/game that's being streamed.

I work weekends so have next to no chance watching any one live.

Yep, the cross wind off the bay played havoc with their shots on goal in the first half. Vic Country did better with their set shots with many of them closer to goal. Great game to watch, all the boys put in well.
Metro hampered after half time when Ollie Greeves went off with what looked like a corked hip.

Very close game between SA and WA....bad kicking by SA def came back to bite them. Hoping to catch the replay at some stage but no surprises to see Dyson Sharp as SA best. Cochrane is going to surprise a few as well, despite being the youngest there...

From a WA perspective I'd also add the following who caught the eye apart from those mentioned in the RMC article (Kayle Gerreyn, Blake Kelly, Basil Hart, Taj Longmuir were my best also).

Jimmy Aylmore: A tall-ish key defender with a touch of the Busslinger about him. Cool and calm - did the right things when needed.

Lochlain Carpenter: Another tall-ish defender. (The ball was in the WA defence a lot) Not a stylist but showed plenty of desperation for a bigger developing player. Good spoils and tackling.

Matthew Becker: Yet another tall-ish defender. Composed, clear headed, poised. One I'll be keeping an eye on from Peel.

Jamie Sidebottom: Tough, no-nonsense sort of wingman who is already built solidly.

Darcy Montgomery: Listed as 180cm but looks closer to 188 now. Clearly very talented and could have kicked 3 or 4 goals but it was his tackling to keep the ball in WA's forward line that stood out.

Judd Marcello: Tall-ish forward who contested fiercely and helped set up a couple of WA goals as well as kicking one himself.

Matthew Petagna: A medium defender who battled hard all game.

Seems like a decent group for 2025. Certainly more promising than 2024. Throw in the likes of Max Hansen-Knarhoi, Wes Walley Jnr and one or two others who were unavailable but are highly rated and those like Millar Rank, Peter Gioullis and Baxter Gray who don't appear to be in the squad but have looked impressive in colts and there is something to work with for sure.

Happy Excuse Me GIF

Yes young Wes Walley Jnr. Really skilful Indigenous fella. Sadly, he's injured and won't be playing in the national 16's.

His dad was a very very talented player but for a variety of reasons didn't go on with it but possibly one of the best colts players I saw that never played league.

But yeah a pretty memorable name also....so I'm sure folks will keep an eye out for the young bloke.

As expected U18 GC academy participants Addinsall, Murray and Uwland were the standouts in the GC academy's big 10-goal win over Tasmania. Addinsall had a huge game including five goals and 24 disposals while playing as an inside mid.

Beau Addinsall - Midfielder/Forward - 179cm (Broadbeach)

The star of the show with five goals from 24 touches, Addinsall did it all in a fine attacking display from the Suns. He started in midfield but spent plenty of time inside 50, offering the same effort on either line by burrowing in at the contest and looking to find a way forward. Addinsall snared the first goal of the game and finished nicely from a variety of chances, while also generating opportunities for teammates. His intent was always positive and it showed in the stats.

Jai Murray - Midfielder - 184cm (Broadbeach)

Leading all comers with 28 disposals, six marks and six inside 50s, Murray was polished as ever in his usual mid-forward rotation. The smooth mover was clean with just about every touch and had little trouble finding possession in all parts of the ground. Murray’s running goal in the third quarter showed a glimpse of his class as one of Gold Coast’s true prime movers.

Zeke Uwland - Wing - 176cm (Burleigh)

It was business as usual for Uwland, who reprised his role on the wing. He is usually ultra efficient by foot and while the radar was a touch off at times, he managed to hit the target with two goals in the second quarter. Uwland was threatening in attack, but also diligent to help navigate play out of the defensive half. A couple of handy features of Uwland’s game included his deceptively good overhead marking and strong core to shake tackles.

Sharp BOG, no surprises there. He's a weapon in the making that's for sure and for mine certainly at the top of the tree for the 2025 draft. Could play league now and not be out of place.

sharp and Gerryn look very promising, number 34 for the wa team moved nicely and had great footskills as well.
