It's a trade off.

You can either have a non representative but standardized test done, or a representative test.

With the main important test done on the same day with everyone there, the main testing should be done on an actual gameday surface

it's harder to compare against the state level testing, also means you can compare year to year for to what to expect when they go to AFL level.

If you want to compare them to their peers, well that's what the games are for.

I posted that yesterday when I was told we had offered one to Tom McGuane and the other to an ex-Swan who was around 24 years old. I wasn't told the name of the player, but deduced that it could be Foot.

I do hope it's Foot. He's had an outstanding season in the VFL.

Still waiting to make my decision on that one. Qualified for Father-Son and has good linage. If the grandson(s) of Craig turn out better than Jake, this will be a win.

It's good to break the VFL cycle of taking our SANFL players from the 80s/90s then taking their sons outside of the draft to the same club 20 years later.

Quality of player is more important than height. But you can't go without tall and small players.

Working with someone whose partner is very connected to the playing group has its advantages. I don't like to ask too many questions, but every now and then we'll have a conversation that piques my interest.

McGuane looks like a classic good SANFL player. Very good footballer without a weapon at the next level. I would be ok with us signing him because I think it's a better idea than an empty list spot, but only just.

The footage of Foot is scarce on the internet but the little snippets that I can find - now that is a player I would like us to sign. Someone with that turn of speed and a developed body, can obviously play having won the B&F for a Southport team that all but won the flag. Add an AFL pre-season and that's a guy who could play round 1 and make a difference.
