I’ll be stunned if we, or WCE for that matter, trade back in this draft. Clark at WCE has already indicated that they won’t be doing it, and Blair has hinted similarly saying he’s happy where we are placed at this stage.Trading back one of our picks could very well happen (I hope it does) but I still think that we need to assess our needs in the midfield once we've had a good look at what we have, we really didn't get that opportunity this year.
I'm firmly of the belief that the recruiters don't see our picks as the best in the (weak) draft because it's highly compromised, what would normally have been pick 3 (our 2nd pick) could well be pick 8 (and pick 7 for our 1st) after compo and bids which then puts it in the realm of drafting the best player in a position of need.
I agree that Sharp and Cumming are the best mids available, but I don't think that we should be drafting them to increase our midfield depth. We have other positions that are in desperate need of a talent injection.
Yze, in an interview after the season ended, made comment about our drafting strategy last year, he said that we filled a lot of positional needs. I'm positive that we'll continue on that path.
But they would say that wouldnt they ?I’ll be stunned if we, or WCE for that matter, trade back in this draft. Clark at WCE has already indicated that they won’t be doing it, and Blair has hinted similarly saying he’s happy where we are placed at this stage.
Would be crazy not to just take best player available at each selection. Stuff giving other clubs priority access to high end talent even in what is a weaker draft for sure. Just take the best available and back in the recruiting team that’s been watching these kids for years.
Blair and Rhye said the same thing, would have to be an outstandingly favourable deal for us to trade back, and that’s the way it should be imo.

richoatthedisco fuminDyson Sharp is criminally underrated. He’s the best junior player in the country. Full stop.
Jack Watts vibes.Im gonna go early and tip Duursma will end up being in contention for one of the worst No. 1 picks ever. I personally don't rate him and think he's been way overhyped. He'll be a flop just like his brothers.
3.10 is the lower end of average, 3.17 is absolutely slow20 mtr 3.17 and 2klm 6.33 is not really that slow
Jagga & Smillie 3.10 and i think langford was something like 3.27
But he has a nice step and both sided which always adds to inside mids
Zero is a bit harsh. He was tracking very nicely before his injury, and he has had a few. Quickish, strong, tough with a good long leg, plenty to work with.I like McAulliffe but there’s literally zero shown so far to suggest we should be so happy with him that drafting pure mids isn’t required
For sure, I hope it does happen as it has to be a massive winI’ll be stunned if we, or WCE for that matter, trade back in this draft. Clark at WCE has already indicated that they won’t be doing it, and Blair has hinted similarly saying he’s happy where we are placed at this stage.

No but he did win the Larke medal. So many on here wanted Smith last year due to his incredible form, but none are not glad we took Lalor. Scully and Tengrove were standouts, but sort of glad we took Martin. Was Graham the best junior in his age bracket for his last 2 years performance wise ?
Are you serious Mate? Every club with high end picks has actually said they are open to trading back! But I’m tipping they won’t.But they would say that wouldnt they ?
There is nothing to gain by saying 'Yes were are open to trading back in an even draft'
all that does is diminish your hand if there is a club knocking on the door asking to move up.
* Different thing altogether just got a bit of info from a friend who knows some VFL players and mentioned that Harry Scott is a player of interest for the eagles and they have contacted him or his people
Watch and see

Yeah a few counting their chickens before they've hatched, we've seen a few games of Cliff in the middle, a few quarters from Lalor and Hotton and nothing from Smill. We don't really know what we have yet so hard to say what we do or don't need.I like McAulliffe but there’s literally zero shown so far to suggest we should be so happy with him that drafting pure mids isn’t required
LOL 0.07 seconds is absolutely nothing and 100th of a second might be a nose3.10 is the lower end of average, 3.17 is absolutely slow
I think us having early picks drives every bat shit crazy!
Everyone wants the same players but doesn’t want them at the picks we have because they think that they aren’t pick 3&4 material.
It’s actually quite entertaining and I can’t wait for draft night to see everyone melt in some form
I would say HBF are probably the easiest to get as free agents along with RuckmanAgree.
That's why Grill and CDT are so polarising because if we had (say) pick 8 and we got either of them everyone would be going nuts. At pick 3 or 4 everyone's losing their minds drafting them with too early a pick, or hoping the Weagles make it easy for us.
I would be very happy to get CDT if we hadn't just stocked our team with talls last year. All that does is potentially throw team balance out of whack, even if he turns out better. And then there's that truism that "you don't draft ruckmen with first round picks".
I don't really care too much who we get out of Sharp, Cumming, CDT and Robey (we will be able to get 2 of these 4 regardless). I think Cumming is a better bet than Grill. I have absolutely no idea where this Taylor kid fits in our plans either.
I just want a well stocked onball division and all things being equal, we can get a Vlastuin replacement with a later first round pick (this year or next), which is why I don't have a problem with splitting pick 4.
I hope it doesn't, that we keep out picks. However, it is interesting when looking at some of the trade scenarios suggested by Essendon, Melbourne & Carlton supporters to move up to our pick 3. Invariably they try to come up with scenario that is a win/win, that is 'fair'. The problem is Richmond really has zero reason for any trade to be 'fair'.For sure, I hope it does happen as it has to be a massive win
Hope you are correct if we do get Robey & Grlj and it would be nice to have Butters and Bont comboThink the differing mentalities about draftees between posters comes down to a difference in philosophy. High skill floor vs High skill ceiling.
I rate Sharp as the 6th best non-academy player in the draft. He absolutely has his strengths, and probably has one of the highest skill floors in the draft class but I worry about his skill ceiling. He will be a solid 200 game player.
I'm wanting us to go big with our picks this year. High upside. I rate Robey at #2 and Grlj at #3 for that purpose. Robey could become similar to Bont, and Grlj could become similar to Butters.

Richmond is already perfectly placed. The classic if it aint broke don't fix it. If any trade happened, in the eyes of neutral supporters and I should imagine most of the supporters of the other club in question it will be massively unfair deal. But that's what it will take, and probably doubly so for West Coast as well, especially if they are after Duursma.
Personally I will be very surprised if anything happens on draft night.
Stop trying to downplay Robey broDont even understand why they’d trade up? After cdt and Duursma at 1 and 2 it’s even.
It’s also a massive risk. Take the safe bets in CDT and SharpHope you are correct if we do get Robey & Grlj and it would be nice to have Butters and Bont combo
But thats a massive ceiling for these kids to reach - Hope it comes off
Getting cummings could also be the next Issak Heeneyand we may already have our Bont in the team along with the next Dusty in Smillie & LawLa
Why put a limit on it? RidiculousIt’s also a massive risk. Take the safe bets in CDT and Sharp
I expect us to go backwards next year rather than improve. This season we had the older players doing much of the heavy lifting, as that decreases i expect performances to follow. Not a bad thing at all just the reality of the situation. Improvement isnt always inear.2030 seems a long way away. Winning 3-6 games would be scraping the bottom, 1 better than last year would destroy moral and show almost no progress. I think we are better than that.
