This is exactly right, and what many seem to be missing. It’s a thin draft in terms of bankable talent. Well and good to say “don’t pick player x with a top 5 pick, we need a gun mid”, but show me the gun mids available for us to choose from?
When considering CDT, I think he needs to be looked upon as a utility rather than a ruckman. He has great ground ball skills, is super quick for a guy his size and has a good footy brain. He plays good link up football and can play forward or back. His marking is okay but not his strength. He could be the unicorn that people have touted. I don’t want to compare him to buddy but he gives that type of impression. I want this guy, probably because he could be anything. A risk -YES. Still will need physical development. A ruckman - NO.
It doesn't work that way as it's too easy to go into deficit but not impact your draft position. Eg. you match a second round bid and you go '300' points into deficit. But the next year you have pick-1......so you go from 3,000 to 2,700 and still have pick-1 so you've matched for 'free'. But if you have to use points from a second round pick, then the 300 reduction might slide you back 7-8 picks.

Ok, so he's not a ruckman, his marking isn't one of his strengths which would preclude him from being a KPF or KPD for that matter, but he has good ability below his knees for his size.
A deficit created matching in round 1 must be paid back from your round 1 the following year. If the deficit is created from round 2 it can be paid back in round 2… and so on.
its the academies that are the problem. giving northern teams infinite access to high end talent (who theyve already integrated into their AFL system) regardless of ladder position for absolute peanuts. it's no longer an equalisation effort it's now just keeping them up the top to try and grow the brand. completely compromised competition.
He's not a great overhead mark but I think a lot of us (myself included) are underselling him on his speed. If he can mark the ball out in front with his long arms after burning off his opponent, it's just as effective as an overhead mark. We just need good kicks to get the ball to him that way.
CDT plays like an on baller. He can play back. The guy has super mobility. Buddy was a shit mark for his size. CDT will ruck but should not be seen as a primary ruckman. He is exciting to watch.

He means we are not picking Taylor as pick #4....he 'really' pick #8 in an uncompromised draft, which is where the likes of Vlastuin, Tauru and Gibcus have gone.

If CDT is Luke Jackson then huge win to whomever gets him. Jackson is not a great contested mark either, but when playing ruck he's a deadset freak.
Would be happy with any combo of Robey, CDT, Sharp with our current picks.
