We drafted Nick Vlastuin at pick nine, our second pick will end up being very close to that after academy bids.

One of the better first round selections the club has ever drafted.
he was drafted as a mid

Clearly CDT has phenomenal upside and if he's on the board we have to take him. Robey is a damaging forward of centre mid who has the ability to be a match winner. Cannot be passed up if he's on the board. Then you'd be looking at Grjl for his elite speed or XT. Guys who can intercept in the air are gold now so a top ten pick makes sense.

He was touted as being able to play inside mid but had played his best footy at halfback in the under 18s.
we drafted him for mid but he wasnt any good there

Happy to bypass the player that’s been the standout junior in his class by a long way for the last 2 years? I hope the club isn’t thinking like you
David Rodan won back to back Morrish medals in 2000 and 2001 as the standout junior. A gazillion other juniors dominate that level, make AA U18’s etc… and don’t get drafted or don’t do well at AFL level. I’m not saying you ignore junior output and I’d be very happy if we selected Sharp at 3 or 4 … but I’m not panicked if we don’t.

Bit more to it than that though isn’t there. How does he project in 5 years, a great player, but there has been and will be more Sharps. Particularly not at the pointy end. Brodie just went for pick 103. Rowbottom was just available for a first. Dunkley pick 15 and 20. That’s the spectrum of possible outcomes for Sharp.

It’s a bit easier to create the output of a guy like Sharp in a ‘moneyball’ kind of way, his value over replacement wouldn’t be as high as the median outcome of Robey. How Robey turns out is a big if but you swing this high in the draft. Same goes for CDT. Those archetypes don’t make it out onto the open market nearly as much either. And when they have (Jackson/TDK/Bolton/soon to be Zac Bailey) they go for a kings ransom.

There’s only so many spots in a good team’s midfield, there’s a place for Sharp in every midfield but 1-2 per team in the modern AFL.

Also need to consider the strength of this draft. We’re going to be down the bottom next year most likely, it’s a stronger class and there’ll be blokes like Arki Butler and Van Dyk around our pick. Tanner Armstrong is coming as well. We’ve got Smillie. We’ve potential to be one paced and have not enough room in the engine room picking Sharp.

They’re all things you consider.

He played in both defence and midfield but was an U/18 All Australian half back flanker, he was far from just being a midfielder.

I do appreciate that a defender may not currently be needed as much as other positions, but personally i’m still really interested in Taylor as a potential pick.

Get what you’re saying but we are stupid if we don’t select him if he’s there at our pick. Proven over his junior years that he’s the best player in this draft

With who?

As Twomey and others have said, there’s unlikely to be any movement at the top of the drafts, as there are few teams that have the draft capital AND be willing to trade up to enable us to split our pick.

If there is, it’s more likely it’ll be pick 2 with West Coast than with us.

If we want Grjl we have to take him with one of our first two picks.
For now that's all talk with who come draft night the deals will come. We're still on the dees and bombers raider. At pick 4 and 3 you take the best talent and Grij aren't it at that point if we split it different story.

nah can use a later pick. Trade a future second if have to to get a later pick if think he will not get to 38

Potential upside.

Welcome these four lads.

Xavier Taylor’s profile has him as one of the highest rated prospects. Smallest gap between ceiling and floor of all prospects.

Top end potential of match winning mid/fwd in Sul Robey.

Creative speed/Flair in Pickett.

Culture piece and hard worker in Kellaway

A Taylor/Trainor combo on face value would be a pretty handy Grimes/Broad duo replacement down back that provide that vital tall/small versatility.

The mix of personalities in this thread is the type that needs to punch on, then hug it out, then shout each other a beer*

First pick Robey.

If he's gone already to WC, no to CDT and trade pick 3 to Essendon for pick 5 and 21.

Then use first pick 4 on Sharp.

Pick 5 Grlj or maybe Cumming.

Pick 21 - best available small fwd/mid/wing

Pick 38 Le Ray

Rookie Kellaway.
where is the star taylor 🤣🤣🤣 ?
