Dyson Heppell, Lachie Whitfield, Nick Vlastuin, Christian Salem, Jacob Weitering, Hunter Clark, Aaron Naughton (appreciate he plays a lot more forward in recent years but he could easily go back again), Lachie Ash, Hayden Young and Heath Chapman.

There’s also Josh Gibcus, Jedd Busslinger and Connor O’Sullivan drafted in recent years but it’s to early to tell for these guys. Willem Duursma who’s also played most of his football this year as a defender is primed to be pick one this year.

I appreciate there’s still your Lachy Plowman and Caleb Marchbank’s who have been early picks and didn’t reach their potentials but there’s also been plenty of busts who were early picks and played midfield or on another positions.
crapola besides vlastuin

take punt with mid could become a star

mark coughlan was a rookie

defender early in a poor draft is RIDICULOUS!!

Why are you melting over something that hasn’t happened

Xavier Taylor feels surplus to requirements.
He is the one I'm hoping is the smokescreen leaked by the club.
I'm sure another Nick Vlastuin like defender will be available before he retires.

yeah in late teens in another draft where defenders are meant to be taken

Hey guys, I’ve got some good links inside the club and got some pretty strong intel today.

Firstly the club was really keen on Mal Rosas Jnr. He was actually really keen on us too. The club organised for him to go to dinner with MRJ and during the evening 6-7 times fans stopped and asked MRJ for a photo. Rosas asked MRJ if that’s normal and MRJ said as a Richmond player it happens all day every day. Rosas is introverted and quiet and said he didn’t know if he could handle that environment because it’s literally never happened on the Gold Coast and decided the anonymity of Sydney was going to be better for him, hence the decision to choose them.

We are very interested in a crop of Indigenous boys. We sent the KGI team to WA a couple of months ago to meet and spend time with them and we love a kid called Pickett. I expect he will be taken with whatever pick 38 ends up being. We are certain to use that pick on an Indigenous kid and will probably bid on some of the west coast academy players here if they haven’t been selected yet but Pickett is the kid we want.

The club loved what we did bringing players that had played together in last year and particularly the bond it has created amongst the kids at the club.

The plan is replicate that again this year but this time it will be with a batch of boys from SA.

Our hope is that WC take Dursma and CDT or Robey because we will be taking Sharp and Cumming at 3 & 4. We will take Sharp of the board with pick 3 immediately and then try to turn pick 4 into pick 5 with a trade with Essendon for them to take either CDT or Robey whoever the eagles don’t take. Our aim is to get a future 2nd and Essendons pick to help with our academy stuff next year.

We will then add Kellaway as a 3rd SA boy either with our final pick or by matching a late bid and we already have a deal in place with a club for a 2027 3rd or 4th rounder if we need any points to match the bid (but the club doesn’t expect this to be required as it’s likely in this draft Kellaway slides to rookie selection if we don’t take him)

Anyway my sources are always pretty good (check my history, I broke the news on the Bolton deal last season). Take it for what it is worth and obviously a bit of time for things to change but that’s what I know so far. (Also if u watch Gettable last week, Robey says tigers were the last team to show interest and my understanding is with Lalor and Smillie we don’t think he fits our list)

Pavlich was a forward when drafted
I do not think that is right.

he started the afl as a defender

if what you say is true that highlights our stupidity not playing Richo as the wingman he always was

not getting player roles correct stuffs up builds clearly as playing richo on the wing would enable us to realise we needed a forward like Pavlich at the time

for example not considering Faull back in the years ahead, like his brother, given his kicking, could be a mistake

Then there is the Josh Smillie enigma at the moment. What is he?? Whatever he is he is not Robey, I agree with that. Then again he is not Sharp nor Sam Cummings either, let alone CDT, lol

Also we may or may not get CDT, whoever gets him has to figure out his best role to and areas on the field.

I bet none of this happens.

So Rosas is scared of cameras, sounds like
A good reason not to come to us.

I hat the thought that smug Essendon campaigners are going to be laughing when they pick Sharp & Cumming claiming that they were numbers 1 & 2 on their wishlist.
Likely to occur no matter who they pick to be honest...
It's why I really want them to give us a future second to upgrade one of their picks for one of ours.
Then we can be the smug campaigners claiming Grlj or XTaylor or whoever was always our main target.

I too did think the SA strategy to bring the 3 boys over together would be attractive to us. Be interesting to see if it comes to fruition. I really like the mix it gives us.
